It's just a rant, that's the kind of drink they're going after. Cappuccino has what, espresso, milk/cream, whipped cream, and sometimes spices? So a creamier ,sweeter version of coffee......

Whipped cream? A cappuccino is by definition frothed, so whipped cream is kinda redundant...I mean, some do, just not many.

I like a bit of sugar in my coffee sometimes, but never milk or cream.

I'm really surprised there aren't lot of coffee snobs on this site. Maybe there are and they just haven't made an appearance on this thread.

I like my coffee black or with a little cream. I have a lot of friends who take it too seriously, so I try to avoid going wild when it comes to additives. Any coffee will taste okay if you add enough cream and sugar, it just won't taste like coffee.

Anyone here enjoy their coffee cold-brewed, or read the article in the NY Times back in June about this true iced marvel?

I haven't yet gotten around to trying it myself, but the idea of chocolate-sweet ground goodness in the morning sounds absolutely lovely (though perhaps I should wait until next summer to start this new addiction):

I'll be honest, I've never made one so don't know exactly what goes into one. I only had a rough idea.....

Putting cream or sugar (or anything else, for that matter) into your coffee is the same as putting steak sauce all over your steak.

You don't like coffee, you like cream and sugar.. Save yourself the money and just drink cream and sugar in the morning.

If you liked coffee, you'd want to taste it, enjoy the flavor, and complexity of it.
Would you dump packets of sugar and cream into wine?

I agree w/ SHOE. Coffee should be unsweetened, and accompanied w/ something sweet.

I think it's like sushi, If you have premium sushi, and a premium sushi chef, you shoudln't need soy sauce or give the sushi a bath (like I saw last night) - just enjoy it in its natural state.

Count yourself lucky, friend. I've made, literally, thousands.

God help me.

While I agree to a degree, I don't think that argument is entirely true. For those who drink frappuccinos and all the other bastardized coffee derivatives, sure. But I think of coffee as more like rum or bourbon or gin to my mind. Sure, you can sip it straight. But you can also make cocktails out of it, and the more refined coffee drinks are like good cocktails. Because you put sugar into bourbon to make an old-fashioned, does that mean you hate bourbon?

That sounds great.....I've made something very similar before, but brewed with hot water, and it wasn't bad but wasn't impressive. I'll have to try this tonight or tomorrow.

I'm having a black dark roast, with a double expresso on the side. After the expresso, the coffee tastes like sugared water.

If all you drink is mixed drinks, I would definitely say you don't fully appreciate the liquor that you are sugaring up and diluting with soda water. If someone hands you some 1792 Ridgemont Reserve (or whatever), and your first instinct is to throw a lump of sugar, soda water, bitters, and an orange peel in it... Then no, you don't like Bourbon... you like an Old Fashioned.
