The Definitive Guide to Slim Fit Shirts

A lot of swedish designers make slim shirts:

J lindeberg
Filippa K
Acne

and others like thomas burberry have slim shirts too.

Swiss shirt maker Bruli has a slim line that is really nice. not sure if/where you can get them in US though.

Paul Smith's slim fit line is also good, but is of lesser quality than Bruli (in my experience, at least), which is similar in price.

I dont know if it has been mentioned, but Ted Baker London shirts fit me very well.

Got an email from Lands' End today touting a new "tailored fit" shirt with slimmer body (no big news) and slimmer arms and higher armhole (this part is new I think). Not sure about the shoulder width, but I'd guess it would be more slim to go with the rest of the slimness. The shirts are cheap ($40 full retail) and come in basic colors and patterns. So if they fit someone well out of the tyvek bag, then they could be a decent slim option. They also might have measurements like chest and shoulders available to someone who calls the 800 number. I know they have had these things for sportcoats in the past.

I know it's been mentioned in here before, but it bears repeating as I just picked up two from the outlet: Ralph Lauren Black Label.

I dont want to get killed here on my first post but since we are not talking quality I would have to name H&M or J.Lindeberg, real nice fit for me...
If we are talking quality I would have to go with Thed Valley or someone that makes custom made shirts...

So, I got one of these - no-iron pinpoint oxford, tailored fit, 17" neck. It had the exact same measurements as my John W. Nordstrom tailored fit 17 shirt: 26" pit-to-pit, 24" at the waist. Marginally disappointing, though these come in a substantially lower price point than the Nordstrom-branded shirts (~$90, and I've had little luck at the Rack). However, the Lands End shirt felt more synthetic no-iron-ey, if you have any idea what I'm talking about. If I bought another one, it would not be no-iron. By comparison, the measurements on my MTM shirts are 25" pit-to-pit, 22" at the waist. The fruitless search continues... For your comparison, I have a ~45" chest, ~37" waist, and I really should be buying shirts with a 17.5 neck. EDIT: Might as well add my other experiences. H&M slim fit in XL gets really long. I would estimate equivalent to a 37 or so sleeve. slim through the chest though. A bit too tight in the arms for me.

It's weird, most Ted Baker clothing that I've tried on has a slim fit, but the one TB button-up shirt that I owned was the exact opposit of slim. It was so billowy that I ended up reselling it after one or two wearings.

I have two Ted Baker button ups, and they are probably the most billow-ey shirts I own. Horrible.

based on my experiences, most of the major mass-market mid-scale US brands (BB, LE, Nordies, PF offer essentially the same measurements for their slim fits. I'm sure anybody else going for that market would be doing the same. Basically - from what I can tell, these slim fit shirts have a 4 inch drop.

If you have an 8 inch drop, and want an 8 inch drop in your shirts, you either need to alter the shirt or go MTM.

I've been on the look out for some slim fitting shirts as well. Club monaco slim fit shirts in xs work very well for me. They are slim, with enough give for movement. Plus, they can be had for $19-39 on sale.

Other options are Sisley and United Colors of Benneton. However, the quality on most benneton button downs is often worse than H&M, and Sisley is only slightly better. some items seem to be made really well, so it;s important to inspect before buying. Their shirts can be too slim sometimes, with darts in the front and back and a box pleat.

better shirts can be purchased at a higher price, but this is for those who can't afford to drop 100-200 on a shirt.

madgrad, you and I have the exact same spec's. check my old posts in this thread, pg 7,8, or 9? i strongly recommend Patrizia Pepe (found at every Daffy's, for $50 marked down from 100-150) shirts in Medium or 48. they also have thin knits, cardigans, pants- though some of their designs are a bit outlandish. i perfer their basic. solids, classic items.
it's the one single (affordable) brand ive found that fits me perfectly, even at 6'3". the waist comes in a bit, and the sleeves/armholes are slim AND long.

and BoO, i didnt even bother trying them on at Barney's. Just holding one up, it looked too short.

theres also a seller on ebay that has a few Patrizia Pepe stuff. send a pm and ask for what they carry in size 48 (take my word for it, its the proper size).

oh and if youre wondering about polos or tshirt.. were both out of luck.

Just wondering, how do you wash your patrizia pepe shirts?

hot water + high heat (i live in a dorm, so i cant set the washing machine.).
i own 9 patrizia pepe peices (10 including raw jeans). if youre worried about shrinkage, I have yet to experience any disfiguration/discoloration/loose threads.

The shirt I purchased recently said hand wash, so I didn't want to put it into the washing machine. I was hoping that I could without messing the shirt up.
