I'm getting married less than three weeks and have been thus far pretty isolated from the process, just writing checks here and there, yes/no's on a couple of things, and what I'll be wearing. Which has now fucked me. I didn't get involved in the Wedding Gift Registry at all. If I had, I'd've thought that I needed to specify to my friends who are lobbyists (met them when I was a lobbyist, several years ago, none of whom lobby for anything involving my agency) that they can't give me gifts. I also would've tried to keep the items registered to less than $100 (the value of gifts that I can receive from anyone without having to report it).
Now, I've checked the registry and we've got three dozen $100+ gifts and four sizeable gifts from lobbyists that I now have to write checks, out-of-pocket, to reimburse them for the value of the gifts. Which is great, because I'm so flush with cash right now.

I had to drive to Poughkeepsie today (hour and a half each way). My passenger was the weirdest dude in our office. I discovered that he is a major player in Bronycon, thus cementing his status as a total fuckin' freak.
