A Sam (and David) Hober Tie Appreciation Thread

What would you suggest? I tried out a couple and ended up with this one...I wasn't quite sure about it at first but I ended up liking it. You'd favor just a white linen, or?

My issue is that the gray/tan PS is a bit too neutral with how muted the rest of your outfit is. Tan suit, white shirt, blue pindot tie... where's the eye candy? You could go a little bold and use a pink, yellow, or orange PS. Those are all colors that complement the only other color I saw in your outfit (the blue tie) and also work well with the earth tones (tan suit).

We may be speaking past each other with "eye candy." All I'm saying is if the PS conspicuously draws your eye to it, you're just creating a distraction.

If it makes a difference, it's not a suit. It's also a cut that is quite "non-corporate" - single button with strongly roped shoulders. The fabric has a lot of texture as well. I think the one UC is wearing in that first length would have worked well, but I don't have anything quite like that. I have a kind of purple Vanda PS that would have worked well in color but I felt the pattern was too close to that of the tie. Anyway I know some people like to have a pretty neutral outfit and then one bright thing that "pops" but this is not really my aesthetic (nor do I think it's what UC is going for in his fit - not sure if this is what you mean by "eye candy", deadly). This fit was meant to be understated in color but luxurious in fabrics (if you haven't gotten a hold of this Hober pin dot fabric, it's amazing, and the texture of the jacket I quite a lot) and sharp in silhouette (which I realize you can't really see from the photo). Thanks for all your comments and suggestions though, I really appreciated them.

Look at mine I posted last week, that's a 6-fold.

Three of the four grenadines I ordered from Hober are lined 6 folds and they look fine with a pratt knot.

PB, I like it a lot. 6 fold it is.

Disagree. Even if you don't have the handsomest face, your goal should still be to make it as "attractive" as possible in both senses of the word - both pleasing to the eye and drawing the focus of the viewer. You should be the thing that is looking great, not your clothes (despite all the headless SF shots).

I concur (though I have a feeling TB was just being humorous ).

One of the main goals of any ensemble is to draw others to one's face, to make it the focal point.

I'd add this: it's also important to know your skin tone and understand what either goes well or clashes with it. I'm high-contrast (dark hair, lighter skin) and therefore, the dress shirts I wear are always light in tone and the ties, much, much darker so as to echo this effect, and draw attention to my face. Conversely, it's why I hardly invest in light coloured ties.

It is beautiful, drapes well, and ties a very clean and elegant knot. It is classy, understated and will lift any outfit. I will have to find occasions to wear it now...

Thanks to forex for recommending and to David for answering my questions!! The only downside is that I will end up spending on more Hober ties...

The dark purple/black is fina. The dark red is grossa. I also have the dark navy in grossa. I seem to gravitate to colors described as "dark."
