This came to me yesterday.
For either a saddle oxford or service boot:
Black calfskin for the vamp and counter with black buffalo hide for the quarters on a Dainite sole.

I understand that the Oxford has a deconstructed (narrow) or regular toe. Anyone has problem with the decontructed toe being too tight at the front? Feedback would be most helpful. Thanks.

The soft toe is very low and I find it tends to rub against the top of my foot if I'm wearing very thick socks, which gets uncomfortable if I've been walking a lot.

On another note, the buffalo hide takes forever to break in. I've worn my service boots for about a year now (once or twice a week, on average), enough to need to replace the rubber heel, and the quarters are still really stiff, to the point that I'm still getting blisters.

I have actually ordered a pair of 145 oxford in rough-out suede with the regular toe. IMO, the narrow toe model looks better aesthetically, more streamlined but is afraid that it may be too tight. Hence, I went with the regular toe. But, is having second thought. Thus, asking for opinion here. Any inputs would be appreciated.

After wanting a pair of the Four Horsemen buffalo leather service boots since they were released, I finally got a pair a couple months ago. I've also been wearing mine usually a couple days a week and although they have broken in relatively well around where my actual foot sits, my left boot absolutely kills my shin. It's as though an eyelet and the stiff leather push together against a spot on my shin, resulting in a lot of discomfort at the end of the day. Have you had any similar problems, and if so, do you have any tips to remedy them?

Viberg boots are tough and start out pretty rigid. You gotta beat them up for a few weeks till they get comfy. I wear long thick socks with mine to protect my heel and shin. Make sure your socks are pulled up higher than the top of the boot. You can also physically beat them up a bit and smash them around and stretch them out with your hands to work them in...

The 2030 last is quite narrow, so if you have a narrow foot it should be a good fit!

thanks. the 2030 last looks like the one. I phoned Viberg and got some solid advice about their custom jobs. starting to think an icy mocha cxl 1950 service boot might beat out the 4hm model. something along these lines.

Those just might be my favorite custom Viberg Service Boots to date. I imagine the harness leather must age incredibly.

I think my next pair of Vibergs will be hikers with the 2030 last in peanut bullhide and a commando sole.

What was the total price of Andrew's custom boot? Love these colors. Also, does anyone know how the build quality compares to Alden?
