The fact that Trout got shafted bodes ill for his MVP chances.

If Cabrera hit one less HR or batted 6 points lower and didn't have the triple crown, I'm pretty sure Trout would win the MVP handily. People like to buy into the 'tradition' and 'historical' aspect of baseball way more than they should.

You need to calm down there Billy Beane. I feel like you've posted sabermetrics before and got similar responses. Great, go play with Stata to your heart's content but don't take offense when people don't like it.

So I asked a simple question and your response was:

(1) General statement that sabermetrics ruins the game
(2) General (entirely false) statement that sabermetricians all reduce the game to nothing but numbers and claim that they can do so.
(3) Telling me to go play tabletop baseball

It should be Trout, but it'll be cabrera.

And how the hell does Adam Jones win the GG at center over Trout. Even Austin Jackson is a better candidate than Jones based on defensive numbers

Every team other than the Giants is a losing team, my friend.

i cant imagine a triple crown winner, after all these years, not winning the MVP. i think he deserves it.

How does the length of time since the last Triple Crown winner make the achievement more valuable to his team? And 4 out of 9 Triple Crown winners (since the MVP award took it's modern form) didn't win the MVP that year.

Mike Trout created more value for his team so is the Most Valuable Player in my book. Turning a so-clearly named award into the Most Historical/Cool/Neat Story of a Season Award makes it subjective and pointless.

you are subjective and pointless. jkjkjk ;)

the reason is, because its awesome, and it hasnt happened in forever. when it was more common, it was less awesome. that is probably why some winners didnt get MVP. but now that it is awesome and rare, of course he got MVP. you dont have to like it, but decrying it isnt gonna matter. to the average sports fan joe like me, awesomeness wins awards, boring stats do not. no hate.

please send mr trout an MVP award from your book, i am sure he will appreciate it.

:)

Concerned said it the right way. One fewer homer and Miggy doesn't have the Triple Crown. That's the margin between MVP and not?

dont get your panties in a bunch there Jonah Kerri...

Meh, in a decade, maybe two, you'll be bowing down to your sabermetrician overlords.

Often I agree. But it's not the Most Cool **** Award. Matt Cain threw arguably one of the most dominant games in baseball history last year, that's pretty awesome. Is he the CYA? The MVP?
