As Ernie Harwell would have said, "Mistah Fistah!" 9 consecutive K's. An AL record. The crowd was electric.
And then, he burped it all up. 4-3. Benoit, immediately, made it 4-4.
In spite of Kansas City's 5 errors, it all came down to the last at bat for the Tigers. What a roller coaster game. What the heck is an "infield double"?????

It is also referred to as a "Prince Fielder Special." He hustled like none other on that.

I can. Good baseball breeds tight races. Just goes to show you how unbalanced the NL is.

It's amazing how often it happens that a team fights really hard to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, and then promptly gives the lead back in the top of the tenth. Just happened in the Cards game.

Proves that the Cards lack the heart of a champion. I think Bud Selig should grant the second Wild Card slot to the Brewers, disregarding the so-called official standings. Justice requires it.

According to ESPN, they've still got a 99.1% likelihood of making the playoffs. I have no idea how they calculate that, though.

I'm definitely overreacting a bit, but I am really not happy with the way they have been playing the past few weeks. All of the other contenders have been advancing and the Rangers have been slipping. Not a good way to end the season.

If they do win this today, then they just need one out of three this week against the A's, but if they lose they have to take two out of three and the A's are hot right now. And they can't count on the WC at all. They are making me nervous as **** right now.

That's how I felt last year with the Brewers, who had opened up a healthy lead in the NL Central and then sputtered into the playoffs. I wasn't confident at all about the playoffs, and I turned out to be right.

Did you know that there's a guy on the Twins named Ben Revere? And that he's near the top of the league in steals? I find this oddly hilarious.

OK, I'm confused. MLB.com and ESPN.com are both showing the Yankees, Orioles and Rangers as all having clinched. But Oakland isn't eliminated. If Oakland wins the last three games, and the Rangers, O's and Yankees all lose out, then Oakland wins the west, the Rangers win the WC, and the O's and Yankees comes down to a tie breaker. What am I missing?

No, in that scenario, the Rangers get the WC.

In fact, there are scenarios where any of those teams could end up not going. If the Rangers lose out, and the O's and Yanks both win at least 2, then one of the teams in the East gets the WC and the A's win the west. I can't make any sense of it.

did you perhaps forget there are two wild card teams this year?

tampa bay and LA are 4 games back of the WC1 spot, so Yankees and Baltimore are ensured at least the WC2 at worst or the AL East.
