A pretty minor quibble, and the only one I could come up with.

duly noted, bank of america does this sometimes as well and it bothers me.

30 bucks for a Timex watch, and 20 or 15 bucks for a J Crew watch strap. Timex should learn some lessons here.

and I think the J Crew x Timex is basically a 30 bucks watch, but J Crew made it cool and sell for 150. that's the J Crew magic!

i picked it up, and i like it a lot. i went and bought the burgundy and tan strap from j crew, and between that and my seiko 5 (which looks like the robert watch), i have two solid watches that still came out cheaper than the j crew timex.

and sdotmiles, that is indeed the pic. i'm excited for it to come out (finally!) next week

Why is there all this J.Crew Timex hate?
So it is $150 watch that you guys value at $30.
What is good value then?
The $20 poly watchband? $20 boxers? $40 cotton ts?
Everything that is sold at J.Crew can be had for a fraction of the price at Walmart, Kmart, and Target. When you buy something at J.Crew you are never getting good value by any normal standards. Outside of SF everybody would think you were crazy paying $20 for a watchband or $40 for a t-shirt, but many people would spend much more than $150 on a watch.
RANT OVER

Edit- You are getting very good value by SF standards when you buy something from J.Crew though.

I sure as hell did not pay $20 for my J. Crew watch straps - rather they were 2/$20.

Just picked up a couple of the madras shirts in store yesterday, one that isn't on the website yet. Looked through most of the thread and didn't see it either. I'll try to get a picture of it up later. Really dig the fabric and the fit.

Anyone try this shirt on? Does it fit like a regular crewneck?

Not sure if this was directed at me, but you are spot on. I don't think me saying that I got two solid watches for less than the j crew timex is me hating on it. I feel like j crew is a great value on sale, but as mentioned by other posters, it's hard to swallow ful price. I think people are just perplexed by the watch price compared to similar timex offerings. It's not comparing kmart goods with j crew, it's comparing items by the same manufacturer. I think people are rightfully questioning the timex pricing at j crew. I wholeheartedly agree that it's hard to justify j crew purchasing to the kohls crowd, but I don't think that is the issue here

dude, dont get me wrong. I love J Crew, and will get the Timex if I can catch a 20% or 30% off.

you know Timex generally make 30 - 50 bucks watches, but this J Crew one is priced at goddamn 150, dont you think it's kinda out of line? look at the premium they put on their Red Wing or Sperry, much more reasonable.

No, it was just directed to everyone.
I came of quite harsh in my post. With the Gilt crisis and everything I am finding it irritating when people are equating expensive items even on sale as bargains. I am happy to pay full price on J.Crew items if it will a need in my wardrobe. If I wanted a watch with military distressing, crystal case, and the ability to fit most watchbands I would be happy to pay the J.Crew price.

Not for me. I buy all those items from the sale section with a % off. Those Ts come out to less then 10 bucks. That's considered robbery by some people. And I paid 15$ for each the band, which when compared, is a fair price. Now as for the watch, If it was made in Switzerland by Swiss Army, than maybe I would consider it. If it had some actual history behind it and not designed to look like it does, than maybe I would buy it. But, as it turns out, neither option is true about the watch. In fact, its a Timex, analog quartz movement. It is not by any means worth 150$ especially when Wal-Mart is selling a very similar watch for 30$! Sorry, I'll buy on ebay in a couple of years when its forgotten or replaced for what it might actually be worth. 30$.

You're absolutely right. The truth is a $150 watch isn't a big deal. Most designer-labeled watches aren't worth much as timepieces to begin with. But this is an odd case where the collaborating brand is perceived to be lower-end than J.Crew which makes it very hard to justify the price.

They were probably better off just outsourcing production to Timex and branding the watch as J.Crew. Then most of us wouldn't give a second thought to a $150 watch for the aesthetics.

Maybe we should just start a thread for the express purpose of talking about the enigma that is J.Crew's Timex watch?

^ I suggested that during the last flurry of silly watch talk.

Haha I just browsed the thread again after a little J.Crew thread time off and I see we're still talking about watches
