Tragic - I know and this is far from my field of expertise.
Do any SFers have comments/experience with Miele Vacuum Cleaners?
These (at least in my wife's mind) are on par with 'EG Grant's, in Dark Oak.
This would appear to be true, at least going by a quick search online of their prices (and she is anti Dyson).
Primary use will be a combination of Hardwood Floors and Carpet, with two staircases.

Thanks

I have the Miele Blue Moon. Well made but the Dyson simply picks up more. Save $500 and get a Dyson or get a Dyson and some discount EGs.

The S500's seriously suck. I was blown away after my mindless selection of multiple Dysons for the best part of a decade.

I've had my Miele Mercury for about 7 years, and it's great. Good attachments. Easy to take up/down stairs if need be. I would recommend the powerhead because it picks up so much more. I also have an "animal" like attachment and it's great for stairs and cars.

I'm in need of a new vacuum cleaner. I'll have to take a look at the Dyson.

I'll spend thousands on cleaning supplies for my car but only buy a $100 vacuum. Got a cheap bissel and replace like every 3-4 years.

We have a Meile S4 and like it.

Quality of the unit itself and attachments is very high. Dyson felt "plasticky" by comparison.

Replacing bags isn't a big deal or a large cost.

Easy to carry around, we have a 3 storey + basement townhome. Lots of stairs!

Well I'll through another vote for Dyson in their, but I have never tried Miele. All I know is that I am really impressed with Dyson, and their engineering.

By engineering, if you mean form over function, sure.

Thanks Guys - appreciate all the comments/feedback.
In all honesty though, I couldn't give a toss what she buys.
I'm happy forking out the $$$ for Shoes and watches, but just can't get my head around $800 for a vacuum cleaner...
