I love the look of the Bordeaux but not sure how I'd actually wear it. The Ox is classi tho

I like burgundy/bordeaux shoes with navy. Although their bordeaux looks a little 'bright' to my taste. (not that I don't LOVE the shoooooz)

it is easy to add into your daily rotation plus you can darken it with dark brown

I tried the antiquing - but with some mineral turpentine instead of Vodka. turps is an oil paint thinner of course. seems to have worked very well but have to wait to see long term effects, worried i may have damaged the leather

Has anyone taken a double sole U-last down to a single sole? I have a pair of Italian Oxfords with a double sole that look a little heavy and could stand to look a bit more refined. How skilled does a cobbler need to be to make such an alteration? If I can get it done, I'll post before and after pics. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

I've heard from Nick at VIP in NYC that it can be done. It's essentially a re-soling job and would cost the same.

turps is brutal. Denatured alcohol from the chemist is the stuff you want but gently Bently....

My cobbler took down the sole froma pair of Trickers years ago successfully. Even in those days 10 years ago it cost me AUD60. But then he got to keep the unused UK leather.

I have a pair of Oxfords on the U in double and I too was put off by the bumper car sole. For a while. It's grown on me, and as time passes and the sharp edges become rounded, and compressed by all the bumps and knocks (I'm brutal with shoes) they look much better. The sole blends with the upper in form and color. And I like the sturdiness of the double. The single has a tendency to develop a slight waver lengthways. Not enough to look bad, but it's noticeable.

Just a quick question , why so many Vass shoes at Ascot Shoes on eBay? Has he become the UK representative?? Seems like what he has are all MTO so i gather he's not just getting rid of over stock.
