The Ultimate Vass (Footwear) Thread (Pictures, reviews, sizing, etc...) - Page 787

Don't know if it's already been mentioned here, but unfortunately Vass plans for a new website, which was supposed to be launched already, has been canceled. The new site was supposed to, among other things, give a much better view of the different options available for MTO:s.

Apparently the web company they worked with was really bad, and after struggling for a long time with them Vass finally decide to give up. They now have to find a new company and start from the beginning again, but Rezso seemed pretty tired of it all so might take awhile before anything happens.

i was admiring their charming circa 1998 site last night. I wish the would also add better pics. Every good pic of a vass is not on their site

i dont know why they cant have an online presence on tumblr or instagram atleast.

Website says they're still hand welted (and I certainly hope that's still the case).

thanks FC. I took a 45 in the P2 and need an insole (probably because shell is made about 1/4 sizes bigger. I think ill shoot for a 45 in R. I love the shape. From your other posts, you consider the fit of the r last to be slightly more generous than P2?

Yup just slightly more generous in overall volume in my one experience with it.

Lover those ucap boots. (But I do love then almond toe of the Forest last too...)

Of course they are still hand welted. Vass is one of very few RTW/MTO-brands (most others are also in Hungary) that make shoes the same way as bespoke shoes are made, with "real" insoles where holdfast is carved out by hand, toe- and heel stiffeners in leather, and both welt and sole stitch made by hand. That's why they just stitch their Dainite-soles in the toe, they don't have a machine that can stitch all the way (the awls tip break easily doing it by hand on these soles). Sure, the use quite sparse stitching, and the finish in the details isn't super neat, but it's still very impressive what you get for the price.

Hehe. I think pics was also suppose to be upgraded on the new site. I don't think that anyone in their team is to familiar with social medias, nor have the time, to keep an Instagram or tumblr account active. They so have a Facebook page though.

This is a good thing. Vass still somehow courts aficionados, not j.crew cardholders. Hopefully it'll stay that way for a couple more years.

Edit - if they get too popular, they'll buy a machine to start goodyear welting. They are head and shoulders my nicest shoes, and I'd buy two pair over a pair of EG or comparable any day (though I don't own EG - and, really, I shouldn't with my salary).

I still think we should dissect one!

Who is willing to sacrifice a pair of Vass for the cause?
