Then wouldn't you just have bots randomly posting in threads in order to get the requisite number of posts?

Most bots can't register because of CAPTCHAs. Spammers hire people to solve CAPTCHA, register for blogs and forums and copy and paste a few of their sales pitches before they get banned. The people they hire as well the people behind SPAM have very poor command of English so before they could post a thread they would be forced to make some replies to posts that make some sense. They probably would not bother waiting to create a thread and just randomly post their SPAM as post replies.

Still SPAM but a lot less visible and disruptive.

Just my 2 cents.

I could install the plugin that asks a couple of questions that an English speaking person would know and then the applicant has to type the answer in a box. I'll look into that. It seems to work pretty well for some people.

For the record, I moderate in the following subfora:

Boobs/Asses/And Other Parts
Movies Starring Samuel L. Jackson
Operating Systems and Cult Behavior

None of which formally exist yet, but so far, that hasn't really stopped me.

First thing you'll see is a list of names and which subfora they moderate.

What's up with the lists of "regional members"? What does that mean?

Can't edit my posts- the little timer just goes round and round. ( makes me look like an even worse typist than I really am)

If this post doesn't scream "Kasper", I don't know what does.

On the scale of the incomprehensible, this is a small notch above an average dkzzzzzz post.
