If $18 is a "decent" price difference (leaving aside the increased cost for 2-day shipping) then that's up to you.

As for being a gray market watch, it is mentioned in the user reviews for the Black Monster (stainless strap version) and in this discussion thread on fatwallet.com:

"Now on to the watch, I noticed that it did come with the blue warranty card, but there is an insert from Amazon that says they are not an authorized Seiko dealer, so the warranty is through Amazon for only 2 years."

I've never bought a Seiko from Amazon, FWIW. However, I have purchased from Bluedial and they are not gray market. (I'm not affiliated with Bluedial in any way.) I also don't own a Monster. But to me, I'd rather pay a little extra and have the peace of mind (in addition to having the band adjusted ... I'm not Mr. Fixit like some of you all haha).

Funny, I though my art was stunningly good.

Apparently the monsters go on sale on Amazon frequently. Rubber strap ~ $100 and bracelet ~ 130. Sometimes less. I got mine from WatchZone (3rd party through Amazon) on sale with 2 day shipping. According to the watchzone.com site they are a Seiko authorized dealer and I didn't get a disclaimer insert stating otherwise. OTOH, this is a "beater Seiko" thread and dealing with a warranty hassle beyond two years out on a $100 watch just isn't really on my radar. I will probably eventually crack this thing open anyway to learn how to regulate the movement.

+1. There's a reason the 2 Monsters are among most actively traded watches in the online WIS community for the last few years. They're far more durable than a <$200 watch (street price) should ever be.

Very nice.

How many MMs is the case of this bigboy? Also, does it seem very heavy when you are wearing it?

IRL, 41mm lug-to-lug without crown, even though it's stated as 42mm in most ads. Just a tad heavier than similar-sized diver, but the weight only goes with the look(worth noting, however, that the watch is much more user-friendly in both respects than what the pics/numbers might lead one to think) and is a part of the appeal.

unrated, great pics.

Thanks whacked. When I looked at the specs, I thought it was gonna look huge on my wrist because they're only 6.5 inches. Well, it ended up fitting great, the watch wears smaller than the specs say for some odd reason.

You can feel the heft, but its part of the appeal. This watch has Alpha male written all over it

edit: its worth noting that this is my first automatic watch, ever.

Well, I have ended up getting in today a used black Monster from an eBay seller. Stuck it on an older woven kevlar strap I had from a Linea Alfa watch. I have a gray NATO Zulu strap coming in for it

It does indeed wear much smaller than its dimensions would suggest. P.s. I hate you all for forcing me to get another watch. Ugh. P.p.s. it is indeed surprisingly comfortable to wear although the height makes me worry that it will look like it is hovering a foot off my wrist once I have it on the NATO strap!!!

Bastards, after reading this thread and realizing I can no longer afford a watch from watchbuys, I'm going to have to pick up a Black Monster!

Those of your who bought from premierworld or pokemonyu, do you know if your watches are newer models or have they been sitting in storage a while? I'm asking because my seiko kinetic's capacitor just died. It will cost me more to get a new capacitor than to buy a new watch from ebay. But I don't want to buy one from ebay and have the capacitor die on me in a couple of years. EDIT - Never mind - I didn't understand the difference between Seiko Kinetic watches and Seiko Automatic watches. After much googling I do now.

Just got my Black Monster in the mail and it is stunning! Great casual watch for summer especially. I had the band altered at Macy*s and the dude was drooling over it as well. He couldn't believe I got it for less than $400.

I just got this watch as a poor man's collection addition, and I've got a newbie question.

Clear back on this watch shows a half-circle metal piece moving around. That's the kinetic mechanism, right?

It is winding the watch for you. Kinetic, yes, but not in the "Kinetic - never needs a battery but BTW the capacitor will need changed just like a battery!" sense of the word.
