How do you prevent seatbelt chaffing?

I did a search and found nothing on seatbelt chaffing.

So the question is: how do you prevent the seatbelt from chaffing up cashmere sweaters and causing all sorts of unseen damage on nice clothes? Is there a product that can prevent this?

I've noticed my sweaters pilling up in a banding pattern across my front where the seatbelt goes and I am concerned. And my dad borrowed my silk tie and I also saw minute damage in a diagonal across the tie that I suspect came from a seat belt. Any help would be nice.

I always hold the seat belt off my clothes with one hand. I've always done it, even as a little kid in a t-shirt. It becomes habit and I don't even think about doing it.

You need a seatbelt cover much like the hello kitty, but I would opt for something a little more age appropriate.

What material should I look for? That Hello Kitty one looks like canvas. Is it just the edge of the canvas of the seatbelt that does the chaffing? By having the roll in the Hello Kitty cover, does it prevent the chaffing? And I'm afraid of that velcro. It looks like exposed velcro can do some damage too.

I often wear a scarf when I drive. The ends keep the belt from touching my shirt or jumper.

I don't like belts at all. On my Modena 360 I used the above Hello Kitty pad, but on my Bentley I just cut the belts off, because that is a safe car.

Yeah, on my Toyota Camry, I can't risk it. It's too light of a car.

Yeah I cut the belt out of my new AMV8. Didn't see where "seatbelt" fit with "power" or "beauty" or "soul."

For some reason, the idea of a dignified, well-dressed man in a cashmere sweater getting into a luxury automobile and then strapping in with a hello kitty seatbelt guard has me in stitches.
