however long i've had her for, it's time for me to give up on my Motorola PEBL.

but i've been holding out because i don't want an iPhone, RAZR (or any other such variation), or Chocolate. i'm a fan of product design and while i love the way the iPhone looks, it's far too expensive. i also don't even like the way the Chocolate look as i think it looks very...predictable, derivative, and contrived.

i'd love to have some of the phones here, but they're not in available in the U.S., too delicate/scratchable, or just plain too pricey. while the PEBL does all i need for a phone (being able to receive and make calls), i'm only looking to replace it because the call volume is impractically low.

that article is way out of date man, and its lame that they mostly put KDDI phones on there. KDDI are impossible to use overseas, more so than Docomo phones.

Why not get a LG Voyager? They look pretty foxy. Personally I have a BB Pearl (its ok), and have a DoCoMo SH903iTV (the TV is for OneSeg TV Tuner), and now old D902i (4mp camera, slider phone) kickin around. If I could unlock them (and get WCDMA service) I would totally use them over the BB. The only advantage the Pearl has is its keyboard/email function. If I could have purchased another Nokia like my old one, that flipped open for a full keyboard w/ screen in the middle, I would have.

I've just bought this:

I'm going back to the basics. This Motorola F3 quad-band phone was created for third world countries. It's slim, light and durable. It uses electronic paper technology and uses very little power. Although I'm wary of Motorola after my POS Razr experience, I was persuaded by the good reviews on this phone. Oh yeah, it's cheap (<$50) and I don't have to sign another $#(&$# contract.

i generally favor the minimalist approach with my toys. i've seen pics of the voyager, and i know a lot of people like it, but i just never seem to like LG designs.

i like darknworm's motorola suggestion the most so far though.

Ive read some reviews of it, although it looks nice and is a good concept, it is TOO minimalist for me; I need SMS capability even though I only manage to use it a handful of times a month.

I agree with the Voyager vote. I have an LG EnV, and think the voyager would be pretty sweet. It has the iPhone front touch screen, but then opens up like an EnV to reveal the full QWERTY keyboard

This phone looks great. What carrier do you use where you don't have to sign another contract? Or, do you mean that your contract is already up, so you can leave at any time? I'm looking to switch off the Verizon network at the moment, and am struggling btwn. T-mobile or getting some "pay as you go" plan through someone like Virgin Mobile. Anyways... nice phone.

If you don't mind something a little larger, the Samsung SCH-i760 is nice! I don't have Verizon but I just bought a few of these for some of the salesmen at my company and they are pretty slick. Many improvements over the WinMobile 5 phones of last year. They just jacked the price up about $150 though :-(

I'll be continuing my t-mobile contract (now expired) until there's another phone that's worth signing a new contract for. Until then, I'll just use this one as I'm neither a text nor a camera junkie. If you really don't use your phone that much, just get on a prepaid or pay-as-you-go plan.

I tried purchasing one of these while in Mexico but did not have any success with my At&T SIM card in the phone.

I own an LG Voyager (for 3 days now) and that would be right. iPhone with the flip open QWERTY keyboard. It's nice. Only think I dislike about it is the instant messenger program. When you send an IM it counts as a text (unless you have the unlimited plan). Otehr than that, so far it's frickin great. But texting aside, I'm hearing impaired (two hearing aids, 70% hearing loss, and fluent in sign language), and this phone is frickin loud! I jerked my head away from the earpiece it was so loud. I've got it on the last 2 lines, and this is a comfortable, understandable level for me. P.S. Oh, it does have a strange "springy" feel to it. When you type certain keys or put it down a little hard, it "twangs" as if it were a $ 2 toy.

Will the Voyager do wireless sync with Outlook for both email and calendar? If it does, I am probably getting that but if not, the Samsung that was mentioned above will be coming my way.
