Beautiful Berluti Bag

This bag, with the pocket positioned just so, really appeals. The colour, sturdiness, and simplicity work together toward some old maxim for such things. Other bags with the engraved words strike the wrong tone but the plain ones compare favourably with other luxury brands. For $2100, does anyone have opinions as to the durability and fittings quality? A work of art, anyway...

They are really beautiful bags. I saw them ( they come in 2 sizes ) at the Rue Marbeuf flagship store in Paris. I prefer the bigger size though.

Strangely, the only thing that I *don't* like about the bag is the pocket.
The assymetry of the pocket jars, in my opinion, and ruins the line of the bag.
Remove the pocket, or widen it and have it aligned in the centre of the bag, and I would entirely agree that it is a lovely bag.
Pocket aside, the design is nice and I'm sure that it would acquire a lovely sheen and wear well.

In person, it looks plasticky. It also didn't appear that sturdy to me.

I don't know if the patina improves with age on Berluti. The thing is that Berluti leathergoods are now sold pre-patinated -- antiqued using alcohol and whatever else sickly-sweet smelling stuff one scents in their boutiques. Working at home to polish the items, one finds it's rather hard to recapture that. Of course, forum member GeorgesV's Berlutis are beautifully maintained and patinated, but as someone who runs the French shoe forum souliers.net, he probably knows how best to maintain his shoes.

Anyway, John Lobb Paris is now selling leathergoods, including a bag very similar to the one pictured, in Lobb's own pre-patinated museum calf. I would trust the Lobb quality more.

Lastly, as these models seem to follow closely Bill Amberg's designs, I am sure you could find models under his own name that might be more reasonable and just as well if not better built.
