Cheap Frette/Hospitality Collection questions

I'm interested in buying some decent bed linens on a shoestring budget. I saw some Frette on eBay that I believe is from the Hospitality collection from this seller. I know these probably aren't nearly as nice as "real" Frette sheets, but I was wondering if they're a decent value at their price. My followup question: I also don't see any fited sheets available from the seller. Do high-end sheet sets traditionally offer "fitted sheets"? Or is the expectation that I would buy a smaller and a bigger "fitted" sheet and just tuck it around the comforter? Thanks!

I've encountered some rather expensive fitted sheets. Unless you're insistent on this brand, why not do some checking at closeout specialists, like Tuesday Morning? I've seen some rather high end sheets there, made in France. They're marked way down from retail.
My only experience with Frette has been with bathrobes. I bought two of them a few years back, at COSTCO. Twenty-eight dollars each. They're luxurious and appear likely to last for a long time.

Thanks for replying. I'm definitely not insistent on this brand, I just don't really know how to judge quality for myself when it comes to bedding (especially after reading quite a few articles about how the "threadcount" number can be so easily manipulated).

I'll check Tuesday Morning and some other discounters, though. Thanks for the advice.

Some quality linen manufacturers recommend not using fitted sheets -- rather get two of the normal top-sheets so you can rotate them between top and bottom. Otherwise your fitted sheet would show wear more quickly than the top.

^^^ That's interesting. The Vermont Country Store offers 740 thread count sheets made from long staple cotton. The price on these sheets, is not bad.

Beautiful. I've read that Karl Lagerfeld used to have his bed made up three times a day, in order to appreciate the feel of his linen sheets. Pamela Harriman favored sheets from Pratesi.

It is one of the true pleasures in life, I think. Some of my favorite sheets are made from a fairly inexpensive t-shirt cotton; I don't think you have to spend a fortune for a good feel. I'm curious to hear how your Frette experience turns out, nk.

I might pick up a couple flat sheets from the eBay seller and see what they're like. I don't have much of a baseline to compare them, but if they're noticeably better than my $5-from-Amazon.com Wamsutta 400 TC sheets, I might go back and purchase more.

It would be great if someone who has slept on Frette in a hotel could chime in, but it looks like this may be the best way to get to a brand I know is reputable at a cost I can afford (less than $75 a set, and even that is stretching the budget a little).

I had no idea they'd be so cheap on the 'bay. I might try out a set for that price but I'd say you're right that they must be of the cheaper hospitality line. Even so, they'll surely beat out a $75 dept. store brand. When staying at a hotel that offers fine bedding, the feel of the sheets often has more to do with the quality of launderer that they use -- hardness of water, type of detergents / additives, etc. I've been disappointed by Frette and then sometimes when the laundry is done with more care, they are perfect.

I recently picked up some Frette sheets and Woodbury Commons. I was unaware that they even had a store there, but was able to pick up some simple Frette second tier sheet sets for $150/$200. I can not say enough about quality and comfort, these really do make a difference on the bed. The only downside is that you must use a flat sheet on anything thicker than 15" or so. The Woodbury commons store was having a good sale and I am pretty sure they will take phone orders and ship them out. They are also very helpful and customer service is very good.

I'm not sure which line they were from, but I've slept on Frette at a few different Inns, and they were outstanding.
