Interesting though that most of the places on your list (with the exception of the Galleria and Uptown destinations) are connected via rail. Although Houston's pretty spread out, anything within the 610 loop is pretty easily accessed via the Metro bus system.

Yes- but I'm not a big fan of the bus system, personally. Plus, if he's shopping there's practically zero opportunity in downtown, (what, the Houston Center and a couple other scattered places?). I don't know that I would want to ride the metro bus on my vacation- but then again, I wouldn't want to drive in Houston traffic, either.

What, no love for Detroit?

Based on the dress of people I've seen from these cities,
I'd pick Houston, for Houstonians were the dressiest.

It's a Continental hub, too.

I'd pick Denver, and you can visit Lawrence Covell, the best men's store in Denver. Houston is just too oppressively hot and humid and it doesn't have a lively downtown after 5.
Actually Houstons downtown scene has change. I use to complain about the same thing years ago. It offers a multitude of bars, clubs, lounges and restaurants, as well as the second largest theatre district in the country, of course excluding New York. The city offers great shopping and fine dining. Like someone said eariler, a major problem with Houston, lies in the fact that the city is very large and somewhat spread out, and I'm not a big fan of the bus system. I guess you can always use a cab.

If Houston and Denver are in your radius, probably so is Phoenix. The Phoenix/Scotsdale area is LA East these days. While it is far too hot right now, if you head there in a few months the weather will be great. Also, tons of good shopping, tons of great places to eat and drink, and an easy airport to get in and out of.

How is Phoenix? I've never really been out that way, unless you count flying into their airport. Is there alot to do.

When I visit, I always find a ton to do. There is some great shopping, especially in Scottsdale area. There is the Biltmore Fashion Square. They of course have your Neimen's and your Sak's in Scottsdale. If you golf, it is paradise. Great food, from Mexican to sushi to five star Continental. Last time I was there, I stayed at The Phoenician: http://thephoenician.com/pages/index.html I was there one time in the cooler weather on a weekend evening, and many of the art galleries in old Scottsdale had basically an open house going, with wine and hors d'oeuvres. If you're young enough for raves, I hear they have huge ones in the desert (I am 10 years past the rave scene).

Thanks to all of you! Design Professor, if I do visit Oklahoma City, you've given me a lot "to hang my hat on." Shoes (dress lace type) would be at the top of my clothing shopping list. Do the stores you listed carry the best selection of upscale shoes to be had in Oklahoma City? Piobaire, yes I visited Phoenix once and it is a great shopping town, although I'm old enough to remember the days when the department store world wasn't dominated by mid-scale Macy's! Scottsdale/Phoenix used to have Goldwater's, Diamond's and also the Broadway as I recall. Metrocenter was the most important shopping mall in Phoenix and had something like five anchor stores. Probably doesn't anymore!
For whatever reason another city out west that appeals to me is Salt Lake City. The culture is definitely "different" there and the views of the mountains are incredible! I can't think of any major city with a prettier backdrop to their airport!

And dtmt, obviously you don't work for the Detroit Convention & Visitor's Bureau!
