Those are really cool looking. Are they really made out of Kangaroo skin? Not sure how I feel about that.

Ok, so now I'm on to Denim. Thanks for the help with the sneaks. I'm glad I found this forum! Too bad it gets blocked at work.

I had no idea there was so much involved in high-end denim. I've learned a lot already.

I'm looking for a pair of high-end jeans that I can wear casual or dress (with loafers, blazer, etc.) Something that I will keep forever and will get better with age. I really like the sound of the dry/raw, selvedge jeans that you don't wash for 6 months! 2 brands/models I'm looking at right now are the Earnest Sewn Fulton and the R&B 11 Selvedge. I think Straight Leg is the way to go for me.

Here's all my info if it helps you give me some advice. I'm open to anything at this point since I'm a newbie.

I'm 5'7" tall. 38 short chest but I have short legs. My waist measures 32" and I wear pants in that size but jeans are too loose in a 32" so I go for a 31". Here are 2 Gap jeans that I'm wearing right now that seem to fit well and I like. I hope I took the measurements correctly!

Gap Relaxed fit:
1. Size 31x29
2. Waist 15 1/2"
3. Front Rise 11"
4. Back Rise 14"
5. Inseam 28"
6. Leg opening 8"

Gap Carpenter
1. Size 31x28
2. Waist 15"
3. Front Rise 11 1/2"
4. Back Rise 15"
5. Inseam 26 1/2"
6. Leg opening 9"

One of my concerns about the ES Fulton, and any other jean, is the wide leg opening. Thoughts?

I appreciate any advice!!

yeah, they are kangaroo leather. You will probably not notice much of a difference unless you are actually playing indoor soccer in them and consequently regularly putting a lot of stress on them and oiling them to keep them soft and durable. They look identical to the regular Sambas from more than an inch away.

I have some battered old Gap RF, and ES Fulton will almost assuredly be about half width of those!! But respect the Gap denim - especially a few years ago, they put out solid stuff at good(sale) prices.

I'll put my 2 cents in for Nudie Olas and Regular Ralf's. They may have lost some popularity on this board but I stand by them for being awesome and if you can find the Olas, they'll probably be mad discounted because they are being discontinued.

He said that he wanted a straight leg. Both of those are bootcut. I think that the RB 11 or KMW 1980/1950 would be right up your alley. Possibly even a pair of SDA 101's or 103's.

Thanks! I'll take a look at those. I really like the style of the KMWs. The 1980/50s look great!

What about the APC New Standards?

Also, I noticed that most of the online dealers don't show the inseam length or the length is 34". Is there any issue with getting the inseam in smaller lengths?

Lastly, since I usually get the Gap Relax Fit in 29", should I stick to that length or go longer, say, 30". How do I figure out what length will work?

Thanks again!

If you're really cool, then you'll wear topsiders. Vans Authentics would be cool to but you have to have some swagger.

8.5 or 9. Probably 8.5.

I just got my Purcells today and they are great. I typically wear a 10.5 in dress shoes and 11 in sneakers, and I got a 10.5 in Purcells.

I agree with the Topsiders part, but I have to buck consensus and advise against the Vans; I agree that they're timeless and all, but if you're pushing 40 I'd stay away.

Sperry actually makes an Authentic-styled shoe that you might want to consider:

Sorry, I just think Vans on a middle-aged guy say "I desperately want to pretend I'm still down with skaters!" One man's opinion...

Actually I've seen an older guy look really good in Vans. People from Cali generally know what's up, but I don't think it would be kosher on an east coast kinda person.

I also think the Sperry "Bahama" is really cool. Vulcanized sole, but it's a topsider(?)

Where's that? I ordered mine from Zappo's, $55, overnight FedEx shipping and return shipping are free and they have a good rep. No tax either. Consider using the forum link if you go with them.
