I'm always kind of weary when answering this question. I recall the conditioning thread (I think sq4u made it) a year back or so. The average joe chooses not to spend $300 for a pair of Somets, let alone $100 for a pair of jeans.

My close friends know all about my clothing purchases, but it's usually slightly awkward when someone asks how much my jawnz cost.

This is my first thread, please lock/mock if it's been discussed.

I always lie. I mean, I can't make the lies too egregious and say 50$ because they know I love designer ****. but I never tell them the true price. I usually leave them saying "hmmmm well I guess it isn't thaaaaaat much"

just give you best "on meelion dollars" dr. evil impression and nobody will ever bug you again, because seriously who the hell would risk being seen talking to the type of guy that would do a dr. evil impression in 2010?

When someone poses the "how much did you pay for that?" question, they are looking for a high $, so they can rationalize their own purchases as "good" and your purchase as "overpaid". So, aim low or just say you don't remember.

I like to tell how much I paid, or more accurately, how much I saved. For example, I tell people I got my beautiful $1500 Hickey Freeman suit at 70% off for ~$450. I make a good living but I just have the hardest time paying retail, especially for higher priced items. I got a pair of AE Park Ave shoes on sale for $295 from AE direct. I had to look online for a better deal and ended up buying a pair of 5th Aves for $245. I am all about the deal, I spent way too much time trying to save a few bucks. I got a bunch of $85 shirts at Dillards for $10 the other day and I like wearing them knowing I got such a good deal on them.

It's not that I don't trust them. How is this even an issue of trust? It's not confidential or delicate information. I don't care if some idiot thinks my bag is too expensive, but I don't really want my mom freaking out about how much money I spend. I come from a pretty poor family.
