Yes, back before the days of official bots like "X," having a linux box and running your own channel bot was the ****.

I miss the proper warez scene with clean releases in 1.44mb chunks. Being a top 10 uploader on a BBS...

Struggling to get Adobe Photoshop 3, a few megs at a time, from Happy Hippoz.

Still have a friend from DalNet who I've talked to three times since 2002 who will get an invite to my wedding.

Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards

You had to answer history/trivia questions before you could play.

I was super young so I don't remember all that vivdly, but getting BBS numbers from some trade newspaper.

Having a 2400 baud modem and setting up accounts on multiple BBS to play LORD or the pit, or other games like that.

Ugrading to a 14.4 and being wowed at the speed.

I remember running comic chat on my home lan and using it to talk to my wife.
It was more a "because I could" thing than anything useful.

My parents refused to pay for call waiting, claiming that we didn't need it because we didn't use the phone that much.

I started playing MajorMud on a local BBS. Obsessively.

The local representative from Princeton couldn't call me to schedule an admissions interview because my phone line was always busy. I realized what had happened about a month after the "if you don't hear from us contact us" date.

I find this pretty funny now, but it was a bit mortifying for a few years.
