I've ran into a few of these. Heck, my university in Athens didn't allow laptops at all.
I use OneNote at work, and it's fantastic once you have a good system going.. I know many law students swear by OneNote too
I saw a pic today, one that I can't currently find, of a bunch of kids in a Computer Science course all grouped together in a few rows, and all playing WoW together.
No one had laptops when I was in college in the late 80s.
