Okay folks help me out. I'm going on a first date this weekend. Where do we go for dinner? I dont want it to be an overly romantic, formal or long meal but it has to be good, and in an area we can easily do something after.

Dacapo might work since it wouldn't be a long meal. Dadeo's isn't good enough. Does Zinc fit the bill? I haven't been before but it looks cool.

I like Picco Lino's..

Pretty decent food, good atmosphere, vibrant and fun in there..

I like Zinc myself. The atmosphere is great yet relaxed. Could make a good date of out the exhibitions too!

I dig the involvement in this thread lately. Red Ox is a very safe bet (perhaps borderline too much for a first date). Wild Tangerine is a bit too "funky" for me personally and we've sort of had mixed experiences there, but it is nice and intimate. I'll agree with the above sentiments regarding Da Capo's food - I would never go there just for the food, but that's perhaps obvious. Zinc would be awesome for a first date - consider trying to snag a seat at the bar after your main outing if things are going well; the only problem I've experienced with Zinc is the fact that (because of obvious gallery-related security reasons) they aren't open late enough to go after a show, for example. I haven't been to Hardware yet - it's on the list. (...as is Corso 32 now - thanks for the heads up gentlemen - I can't say I've ever stumbled upon it.) Oh, don't forget to consider Madison's Grill for something in the same neck of the woods. Good luck Staz. Get the rest of your furniture already!

What about Skinny Legs and Cowgirls? I haven't been to their new location yet. Good date spot?

Heh, tonight likely is, yes, seeing as I'm sitting here on SF on a Friday night. In all seriousness though, yeah, we'll have to make something happen soon. As long as people actually come this time. Heck, we should even organize two to make sure that everyone that wants to come out can come out.

Should we organize this via mass PM or let the whole world know? I don't mind helping encourage the event, but I'm not so sure I'm the best to handle all of the communications; clearly there are others that spend more time posting here than I.

Cannot recommend Skinny Legs to anyone. Will never go eat there again unless ownership changes. **** me they're probably the single most overpriced, overrated resto in town. How they set themselves up as some higher end eatery is beyond me. I had their lamb shank this week and there was no flavor to it whatsoever.

I do recommend Hardware Grill for a well priced meal. Plus the viewing kitching makes for an entertaining lunch or dinner. Ask the host for a booth that allows you a look at the action.

Another nice date spot that won't break the bank is Culina Millcreek. Then step over to Bibo the wine bar next door to continue the evening.

My girlfriend has wanted to try Culina for a while now, so I'm taking her next Saturday for our anniversary. I hope it's good!

It's a perfect "special occasion" restaurant. Go to the millcreek location so you can go to the winebar after.

Just picked up some boots I had repaired at Expert Shoe Clinic (as per a recommendation made a page or so back). I'm pretty impressed, the guy is friendly and knowledgeable and does a really good job. He also charges a very fair price for his work.

I used to go somewhere else downtown (I think it used to be called Adam's Shoe Repair or something like that, I can't remember what it is now) but I never really felt comfortable leaving my shoes with them (owing to a severe language barrier that didn't leave me with a good feeling that they knew what I wanted) and compared to Expert Shoe Clinic their prices are outrageous.

I was there earlier today and he fixed my fiancee's Choos for free! Was expecting a modest charge at least for his time, but he didn't charge anything.

Great guy, highly recommended! I just wonder if he can do full resoles and welt replacement!

Guys, whats with all the picco lino recommendations? Their food is junk. Seriously.

Stazy, nice Century Park condo. I thought about buying in there for a while, but took a pass. How'd the date go?
