Any maker will have the odd unhappy customer as this poor chap might be.
Some want and expect pure bespoke for MTM prices, we do not offer or even pretend to offer that service and our prices are extremely keen for the quality we offer.

You can order cloth samples through the site, and you can order a trial jacket for sizing purposes.

I wish I had known that there was such a trial suit before I ordered mine a while back. Ohwell!

I've ordered from them (have an overcoat in the works right now) and believes they have amazing customer service. If you want something done they can do it, I think you can send your jacket in and have a pattern drafted from that for a fee (I'm not sure I have to check).

We can do trouser patterns specifically for a customer but not jackets. We do use customers own jackets to help with sizing if they are not confident enough tofollow he normal procedure

Thanks for the help, everyone. I've tentatively decided to go for it, and have ordered some cloth samples. I'm leaning towards the brown herringbone Harris Tweed, but I want to see it in person (and how it looks from a few feet away, in particular) before I decide. In the meantime, I'm pondering whether I should go for the traditional 3-button model, or the more sports-jackety 2-button one. I'm only 5'9", so I usually try to steer clear of 3-button jackets, but the button stance does appear lower than with most off-the-rack models. Can anyone with one of their jackets comment?

I'm also looking into this. I'm based about 40 mins from the office, and it would be my first tweed sports coat. If anyone can shed some light on the following points:

1. How much is the charge for a fitting in person?
2. Is a jacket from them worth £350 or is there a better bang-for-buck product?
3. Any comments on customer service?

Blackhood: It's definitely worth going; the charge, from what I can gather, is negotiable. The basic jacket from them costs £230, not £350. I think £350 gets you a whole suit. It's definitely a good deal and I don't think you'll get a better tweed bang for buck out there. Especially with the selection. The customer service is generally regarded as exceptional. They got one thing wrong with one of my previous jackets and so they remade the entire jacket for free, for example.

I'm actually more intrigued by these people vehemently saying not to by something but not giving reasons. Is it because they made a mistake and it couldn't be fixed internationally? Or because of some intrinsic fault with their products? its very unusual for the SF crowd to remain quiet about their peeves, which is rather more scary than hearing horror stories.

Agreed. I've been eyeing a bookster jacket for a while and I would very much like to hear what the negative opinions are about. It's not really fair to say "don't do it" without elaborating as to why. If you have legit complaints that's cool, but why not share them--it's a forum.

Very high quality jackets, I thought about getting one as well recently

No personal experience with Bookster, but a close e-friend of mine who is the quite the connoisseur has used them repeatedly with great satisfaction.

Seems like a well-respected operation in general. I think there is more discussion of Bookster on Andyland.
