As the fall approaches I have begun my search for a well-fitting trench coat at a moderate price, in the $300-400 range (if there's anything cheaper I of course wouldn't mind it).

I ran into a Theory coat that was on the slimmer side but I missed out on picking it up last spring.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

This topic interests me as well. My eyes are set on a Burberry trench, but the $1,500 price tag is beyond my means. I'm curious to see the suggestions everyone comes up with.

I do not want cheap, hopefully that's not what I implied. I'm just not at the pointvwhere I can throw down $1k on a Burberry trench at this point. So, quality and a slm fit for the price range I mentioned is my goal.

I usually buy more pricey stuff but I just got a Uniqlo trench from a great seller on B&S and it is really nice. I think it's last season but I'm quite impressed.
What material are you looking for, cotton or wool?

Preferably cotton -- something that can be worn for the fall over suits.

i was at a saks fifth avenue outlet the other day and they had burberry trench coats for 499 in there, marked down from 1200. i understand that this is over your stated budget, but not that much over it. i think if you put a few more dollars with what you want to spend you could find the jacket that you really want.

thanks for the suggestions. I may go by off 5th as well. I saw some Burberry trenches last spring -- my only concern has been the fit. Is there a certain line of the Burberry trenches to consider for a slim fit? I also saw a Theory trench before that fit well but would rather pick that up on sale.

Yeah, Burberry has slim fit trenches in their various lines, they'll be labeled as such, I believe.

I saw an amazing theory trench last year at Saks, can't remember the model name tho but when i tried to look it up, I couldn't find it anywhere except that store in Boston.
