By 17, you were somewhere between 9,000 and 10,000 posts, right?

Did you discover Bill Evans before or after you discovered substance abuse?

A number of years ago, I saw a comedian who wondered why people seemed to pine away for their teenage years. His rationale was this: you lived with your parents, you didn't have much freedom, you didn't have any money, and sex was probably pretty hard to come by. He went on to relay a story of getting a terrible blow job -- all toothy and whatnot -- from an ugly girl at his crappy apartment.

"Still, it's better than being 16," he said.

And I have to agree. I had fun when I was a teenager, but there isn't enough money in the world to get me to do it over again.

I don't think it's that most people want to just be a teenager again, but to be a teenager with the knowledge we have now. You may realize that things weren't as big of a deal as you thought, or vice versa. You might take option A, instead of B, and be someplace completely different.

I'm not saying I have any regrets per se, but there are probably some thing that I would have done a bit differently.

I think a lot of people do dream of being teenagers again. It's a "grass is always greener" scenario. When you're a teenager, you want the freedom, money, responsibilty, coolness, etc. of being an adult (at least, a twenty-something adult). When you're an adult, and you have kids, a mortgage, credit card bills, stressful work, and so forth, you often dream of being that carefree teenager again.
