I have a lot of wall space in my house and quickly realized I didn't have the $$$ to adorn it with expensive art.

I found a solution that I love.

Every time I go to NYC, I buy inexpensive street art. Most of it is really cool, creative, interpretations of Brooklyn or NYC skyline or Flat Irons Building, etc.

I bring it back to LA, frame it and throw it up on the wall.

Am constantly asked.. "Where did you get that amazing piece?"

My response: "New York City, $100"

Not sure, but Acme is kind of up there among the young galleries in LA. My guess would be around 15k - 20k for the larger works, and maybe between 2k-6k for the smaller ones. I haven't asked about prices there in a while and also don't know much at all about this artist, so I could be way off. I would just send them an email if there's a specific piece you're thinking about. You can probably assume that it will be pretty much the same for other pieces about that size.

Does anyone have good advice for photographing artwork for print? I'm updating my portfolio with charcoal sketches and watercolors and can't seem to get quality reproductions. I'm using translucent glass-filtered daylight and an indirect fluorescent light. It may be my ****** camera. Anyone done this?

The fluorescent light might be your problem. but, if it is evenly mixed with daylight, you can just adjust the color temp.

I am assuming you are shooting with a tripod. You want to use a longish lens from a bit further away (don't try to fill the frame on the widest setting)...even, soft light is your friend as well as a mid-range aperture setting--shoot wherever your lens is the sharpest and adjust the shutter time and lighting (its not like your subject is moving)

For those in Los Angeles, my girlfriend and her partner are having their first gallery opening today. It's in the old China Art Objects space in Chinatown, and is curated by Drew Heitzler (owner of Mandrake Bar in Culver City and represented by Blum & Poe). The show looks great. Come by and check it out and have a free Tecate. Here is the link:

Been buying alot of oil paintings lately. I love the older stuff. Really not into the contemporary stuff at all. But still trying to find my own taste.
