Ha, great idea but it could be tough to hang onto a pair of shoes for that long (20+ more years) and then convince my son to put down his glow in the dark flotation boots to put on some anachronistic shoes that are made of cow.

That's fair, but honestly, I'm 26, and anything my father (65) gives me from when he was my age, I cherish. I would love to have a pair of shoes that he wore when he was young, except they were all hiking boots that he beat the **** out of in the Alps. The older a man gets, the more he appreciates these sorts of things. I won't be saving the first pair of shoes I wore to work, but I now have a few pairs that I will make last to then, if I can.

I generally don't like chukkas and don't particularly care for shell (except vintage shell longwings), but that's some good character!

Two pairs that show the advantages of shoe trees and frequent care. The lighter coloured Cheaney Premier Range are about four years old now, and have been sent back to Cheaney to be re-crafted once. I'm not particularly a fan of Barker Black shoes, so the other pair have seen everything from torrential rain to running through muddy fields, and have been worn an awful lot. Ca. three years old. They still look decent, but I've no intention to ever re-sole them or send them back to the factory.
