Wow Purcell boat shoes, what a great idea! Will there be a J. Crew version made from a specially distressed canvas supplied by a world renowned supplier in Italy? If so, I may wait for that version to become available. The extra $20 or so higher price for the J. Crew model is usually worth it in my experience.

The last pair I got, and all the other pairs from before then have the traditional brown, all-rubber sole. This new pair I got... looks to have some weirdo combination of brown rubber and some kind of fibrous-looking composite? When did they start doing that? I haven't worn the new pair long enough to know how they will wear on the bottom... anyone have any input on this? Also noticed the diamond-pattern of the toe surround is quite stretched around the very front of the shoe, but more uniform on the sides. Not that I'm quite complaining about them; they just look a bit haphazardly made than all my old pairs.

i have a pair of ponys like that, but never have i seen a converse made that way. Really strange, i just bought a pair and they weren't like that. You sure they are authentic, are they one stars?

They are All-stars, "double details." Zappos said 1 left in my size in the color I liked, so I said 'what the hell, I haven't bought a pair of all stars in a while'. I couldn't tell if this material is used cause its cheaper or easier to make or use, or if its supposed to be 'more green'. I still have 1 old ass pair of USA made allstars... still truckin'. I'm pretty new to zappos, are they known at all for sending out shittier kicks?

converse.com also has them for the same price.

Thanks, didn't know they were out already.

I like Converse though, more specifically the Jack Purcell. I have several pairs and just got these in from Gilt.

Are those Purcell hi's shown a few pages back at *all* available through a US vendor? Or straight japan? My brother was in Japan recently and I would have made him look for me...

Those are Race Arounds, right? Those actually don't look too bad. Looking at just pics of the product alone they look kinda meh, but when I see them being worn they look pretty slick.

Same thoughts here but your fit pics are inching me closer and closer to picking up a pair for myself. Looks good!

Yup, those are race arounds. I've liked them ever since I first saw them at Nordstrom several months ago and when it went on sale at Gilt, I just couldn't pass it up.

Couldn't resist; picked up some Race Arounds. They came with white laces alongside the black in the box... I'm gonna go with the black for now, but it's nice to have an option, let alone a spare set if something breaks. After I got them I saw them on 6pm.com for $57 but whatevs. It looks like they only have 9's 9.5's and 10's...

Does anyone recall an approximate time the Jack Purcell turf slip was last available?

EDIT: nvm, just got in my eBay'd pair and they came in a box that says '08 Converse Century'. So I guess they stopped making them by 09.
