If you want to spend some serious coin, try Casa Dragones - it's everything good about Tequila with none of the bad.

If you are looking for something a little more affordable, I had Corzo (Blanco, RTeposado and Anejo) and Gran Centernario (Rose angel) recently and enjoyed both.

Having some El Tesoro blanca right now. it is very good but i'm thinking that I want something with a more delicate aftertaste. Maybe Patron isn't so bad after all.

Of the tequilas mentioned on this thread, Casa Noble and El Tesoro are probably the two most consistently good tequilas at their price point. Partida/Milagro are both decent but are overpriced for what they are - and Patron even moreso. Truth be told Patron makes a decent blanco, but at $60 its vastly overpriced.

For $60 you could get multiple bottles of El Tesoro, Fina Estampa, or a number of other tequilas. If you keep your eyes open you could even score a bottle of Penca Azul anejo which is 50x the drink Patron claims to be.

For the most part, Don Julio falls in the same category of Patron, except the 1942 is outstanding, even at the $90+ price point. I have a bottle of the El Tesoro 70th Anniversario coming to me, which I hear surpasses the 1942.

I had a collection of well over 60 different tequilas at one point and still maintain 20-30 different bottles open at any given time.

I get Patron Blanca on sale for $34. Partiga blanca is excellent but expensive usually around $55 in California.

Best selection in Cali is Hi Time Wine in Costa Mesa. You can get some great tequilas there for ~$30. San Matias Orgullo for under $40 is arguably the most absurdly good thing I've ever seen in the tequila world with only getting Penca Azul Anejo at $35 as a better deal IMO.

I bought a bottle of this Grand Mayan Extra Aged around Christmas to give to a friend. We ended up drinking most of it one night with a group. Wow - it was really unusual. Dark in color and very distinctively flavored. Almost like a rum or a brandy. Not something I'd want to drink all the time but it was great.

Never tried it but I can pretty much promise you that if it says "Patron" it is overpriced. For $500 you could get a bottle of Casa Noble 5-year, El Tesoro 70the Anniversario, DJ 1942, Jose Cuervo Reserva de La Familia, Chinaco Anejo (black) and a Siete Leguas Anejo and still probably have some cash left over.

In other words, don't waste your money.

i'm very interested in trying some other brands. what's the next one i should try?

As I've said, El Tesoro and Casa Noble make consistently excellent tequilas. Also look into 1921, although admittedly I'm not crazy about their blanco.

If you want something a little more sweet than silver, look into El Tesoro Anniversario, Don Julio 1942, or perhaps Clase Azul (Repo) if you can get your hands on it. There are tons of other good brands out there - Chinaco makes a good tequila (although it has declined slightly of late) as does Siete Leguas, which consistently ranks among the best anejos (not extra-anejo) out there. You may also want to consider Fina Estampa if you can find it, as those range in the $20-30 range per bottle. Also, San Matias Orgullo is a terrific anejo.

You should check out online sources (Shoppers Vineyard in NJ and Hi Time Wine in CA, for example) to see what's on sale as often you can get a great deal on some bottles, even if you have to pay for shipping. I ended up with 6 bottles of Fina Estampa (2 of each blanco, repo, and anejo) for about $100 at one point from one source and a case of XQ Anejo for about $120 from a place in DC.

I just had some Avion Blanca tonight. Very good aftertaste that would be ideal in a simple margarita. But there are better ones to drink neat. Corzo and 7Leguas blancos are favorites recently.

BTW, 7 Leguas was the original supplier of tequila to Patron when they started out. Patron got so big they began getting tequila from a variety of sources.
