To me it smacks of a kind of young republican/ivy league douchebag aesthetic in general, though I have seen it done well on occasion. Someone here--Holdfast maybe?-- fairly recently posted a combo that looked pretty great, can't recall the particulars though.Originally Posted by AJL

I think the cuffed jeans combined with well-worn monks provides a nice counter-point to the sportcoat/shirt combo.

I'm not talking taking a suit jacket, Ed Hardy t-shirt, skin-tight jeans and a bucket a hair gel. More like a button-down, casual sportcoat (cotton, tweed) and dark-jeans. Granted, as some have said, it might be generational.

I'm not an old dude, but I still don't dig it. It doesn't look bad, but I can't recall thinking it looked really good, either. It's just there.

I'm not big on it, but once in awhile I will do it. (About once a year if that.) I don't mind it much on others as long as it's a casual situation.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, people who try to pair a true suit jacket with a pair of jeans present themselves as a sartorial centaur. In other words, they look stupid.

+1. And personally, I usually can't tell the difference between a solid color suit jacket and a blazer with non-brass buttons. I think the jeans + blazer look is a nice look, especially if you expect to be moving about a lot.

+2. I'm an older guy who works in a very informal setting. Wearing jeans is about right, although sometimes I am required to dress up more, and sometimes I just want to.
No need to fetishize slacks and act revolted about denim. Too many fetishes on SF; too much playing the "gentleman" of yore. Why don't you just go all the way with role-playing and wear nothing but Ralph Lauren and BB and pretend you are the ******* Prince of Wales?
Again, wearing good clothes is fun, and it satisfies some of our desires, but it's not life.
But, if you look good in something and it's comfortable, do it.
