My friend gave me a brand new Giorgia Armani suit. (Retails ~1,800 MSRP)

How can I repay him? Should I take him out to dinner?

I believe the correct protocol is a reach-around.

He paid way too much for a Giorgia Armani suit. You sure it's not a George Armani suit? 1,800 for off the peg? It seems like you're just bragging. "Look at me, I've got stupid friends." Are you sure you want to do that here?

He said "retails for 1,800". That doesn't mean anything. For all we know it's a suit he bought on sale, has owned for years and gave as a hand me down.

Don't be such a condescending prick.

His friend is quite generous for giving him a suit. A real friend does something without expecting anything in return, but a dinner would be a perfectly acceptable thank you.

Sorry, you're right. Except it is brand new, not a hand me down. Even on sale, the price is probably much higher than what you can get elsewhere for bespoke or MTM as mentioned by others. I think a dinner is way too small for such a gift. I think the best thing to do is to wait for the friend's birthday and then take him/her to a bespoke tailor and have something made for them just to educate them about what kind of man of wealth and taste you are. A Chan can be had for $1,600 and it would probably be 10x better than Jorge Armani.
