No Dream Warriors -- hee, hee.

Greatest ever and no Run DMC (brought rap to mainstream America, made it OK for Caucasians), Tribe (I know several have mentioned them), Public Enemy (1988-1991 there was no more relevant hip hop act, plus Terminator X and the Bomb Squad had the hypest sound)? No Geto Boys (repping the South before the South was in the Game)?

edit: Forgot De La Soul, but noticed someone else mentioned them.
addendum: De La, Goodie Mob, and Fishbone (!) played possibly the best concert I've ever seen. Goodie Mob, with a live band, did Cell Therapy over top of Black Sabbath's Iron Man.

Not sure how that is a positive or even a negative for that matter.

Not negative or positive, but critical in ranking. Best assumes (rightly or wrongly) a certain level of broader dissemination. Hip hop doesn't become a world wide phenomenon if suburban white kids don't start buying it. Run DMC, using Aerosmith, Billy Squire, and Van Halen hooks gave those kids an entre to the music. That's what put them on world tours with MTV following them; and that's what made dudes think this rap thing might not be a bad idea.

How could you not include the Roots? They have the most consistent discography out of any group ever. Mobb Deep? They fell off more than any music act ever. The Infamous is top 10 material, but I thought HOE was kinda repetetive and boring. It all went downhill from there lol.

Murda Muzic was a great album and Infamy was ok. I like the Roots alot never though to add them to be honest they do not have a classic album.

And Whodini had a bunch of monster hits.

I meant to mention Whodini earlier. One of my all time faves.
