^^ I have 2 other shoes on the 348/358 and they look fine to my eye. But something about the Hallam didnt appeal

Try the C&J Audley in the handgrade line or better yet, the Belgrave or Welbeck. IMO, it is hard to beat the 337 last from C&J.

Regarding quality, are they both on par?

I feel the Carminas would be between benchgrade and handgrades C&J but closer to handgrades. There is no doubt they look way better than the hallam. If they are from the Armoury, there is a chance you may be hit with VAT once they reach your shores, you may want to factor that into your decision making. Shipping to UK will cost you another 28 quids. I would in such a case, go with one of C&J handgrades, as suggested by the poster above.

Carmina. Best quality-price ratio in my opinion, and I like the shape of the lasts compared to my C&J's. But that is just my 2c.

That is true, Carmina do have some very nice looking lasts. The question is, is the OP familiar with their sizing. There is no problem trying C&J since he is based in UK.

Actually, I've not been able to find one place that stocks C&J in Glasgow - even Kurt Geiger. However, I've been assured I can order and return if they don't fit.

Though I own a bunch of C&J and no Carmina, I'd go with Carmina. I don't like the shape of the Hallam's last, and though it's hard to tell from one photo the Carmina's shape looks better. Also, I really like quarter brogues oxfords (or whatever you call punch cap oxfords with brogueing in the back

) like the Carminas. I think they're a nice compromise between the formality of a plain cap toe oxford and a blucher, and those Carminas look like an excellent example of that.

If, say, you were comparing the Audley to the Carmina, I'd be more on the fence. It really depends on your shoe collection.

While the Carmina is defintely more aesthetically pleasing, I think it really depends on what void these shoes will be filling.

If you are just looking for another pair of Black oxfords, then go for the Carmina. But, if you need a pair of staple black oxfords to be worn with a suit on a semi-frequent basis, the Hallam (or if you want to splash a little extra cash, the Audley) is the way to go.

In my opinion, the two shoes presented serve different functions and fit differently in one's shoe collection. In the end, you may as well get both!

I am a huge fan of Crockett and Jones, but I would go with the Carmina -- they are vastly more interesting.

IMO, you should show both shoes in the same pose/angle to give viewers a better choice in terms of looks. I know you don't own either so it is hard to do.

I'm still unclear as to the leather quality and tanning process for the Carmina. On these pictures, they look better IMO. IRL, I don't know.

I'm sure the Carmina shoes are fine, but to me the kicker is the price difference. $318.52 (£200 converted to USD) vs. $532.84 (4150 HKD converted to USD). For those of you who voted Carmina, would you say there is enough difference between the two to warrant the $214.32 price difference?

Probably not, there is the issue of look and fit so OP really needs to try both and decide which one is better for him. Although, the two shoes are not identical in design so he could purchase both of them
