My mom made a negative comment once on navy with brown at a function. From that moment on I knew it was a winner.

I would do Navy Flannel with that chestnut colour.

Navy worsted with that burnt Pine colour that EG offer, could work. I much prefer black shoes for Navy worsteds, in fact I prefer black shoes for all [city] worsteds, grey or black.

i'm wearing brown with pretty much everything... including black... but not with a tie... i'd go black shoe if wearing a tie.

yeah it goes against the rules but it also depends on how confident you are with it. I'm the kind of guy where you'd know it was on purpose and not because i didn't know you aren't supposed to wear brown with darker colours.

I say do it.

Who makes those shoes Spoo? Also, OP, I wear brown shoes with a navy suit all the time. You'll want to match the shade of the shoes with the shade of the suit. So dark brown shoes with a dark navy suit should work perfectly.

+1. I think dark brown works very well with almost anything except for black. I think its odd the way so many people will instruct that burgundy is OK, but brown is not. Burgundy is essentially brown with a hint of red; if one is appropriate, so is the other.

No boots or chukkas? If you don't like boots, chukkas will be nice. You can get shell from either Rider,Vass or Alden.

But I think dark brown should be saved for charcoal and medium grey.

Wtf "it's not for work." Where do you work that this is not acceptable?
