Few good things yesterday:

GW#1 - Shirts: 2 Eton, 1 Baldassarini Boss, 1 regular Hugo Boss

GW#2 - Shirts: 2 J. Crew soft cotton buttondowns, 1 BB Slim Fit, 1 Carroll & Co. soft cotton buttondown, 1 Thomas Pink striped;

Ties: 1 Kiton, 4 Zegna (crappy pics to follow); some may be 7-fold, but not quite sure.

Nothing!
I post this so new thrifters do not start to think you find something great every day.

Seriously--if we all posted every time we visited a thrift and found nothing, this thread would be six thousand pages long instead of six hundred, and it would seem as though good finds were few and far between.

Which is, in fact, true.

It doesn't make sense to list every time we strike out because, like you said, good finds are few and far between for most of us. I do, however, like to see items that people passed on because of size, condition, just not interested, etc. because you never know when one of the rest of us would jump on it and the poster would be willing to proxy.

Same here - there are some people on this thread to whom normal rules of scarcity and rarity simply do not seem to apply. I can't even imagine passing on Canali as a matter of course, for example!

Hearing about passes like that is definitely worthwhile, though I've yet to actually luck into something as a result of one of those. The important thing, as anyone who thrifts much knows, is just to keep plugging away at it!

^It's taken me several years to get to that point as I built my wardrobe with better and better stuff. And I just haven't had good flipping experiences with Canali/Corneliani/lines of that caliber, on a consistent enough basis to keep taking the risk.

Also, don't forget that it isn't always rainbows and unicorns over here. This latest stretch of great scores really is an anomaly frankly. Just a few months back I stopped going for a few weeks due to the endless frustration of having not found a single worthwhile item for a long long time. Like anything else in life I guess, there are peaks and valleys.

That said, today I found a Kiton dress shirt - $10, and passed on a Barba shirt - $12 (it was just a little too worn), and also passed on two really sweet NWT Fray for Trillion Palm Beach (yes, of Bernie Madoff fame) plaid cotton flannel casual button down shirts. As nice as they were, the store was asking $40 a pop, and I just didn't feel like blowing $100 on 3 shirts today.

Also, as I've come to learn, there will always be a next score at some point.

Couple interesting weekend finds. A pair of NOS Addison Shoe Co. steel-toe military boots in my size. These had never even been laced, and are built like a tank. My only other pair of boots are suede from RL, so these will serve me really well in any foul weather/terrain I go out in. Stock picture since they are in perfect condition and I'm too lazy to go outside and try to take a good picture.

Also grabbed a comfy leather executive chair for $20. First furniture I've ever bought since thrifts usually overprice that category around here.

A big +1. Member EBTX66 recently posted that he passed on a huge lot of Celine Paris ties. The patterns are similar to Hermes/Ferragamo with printed patterns of chain links and oddball stuff like skis and jackets and critters. He proxied 9 of them for me which was very much appreciated on my part. Got them today as well and they are all gorgeous. Thanks again!

I would have never known about these had he not mentioned them. I've also proxied stuff for members in the past as well. Even though it doesn't fit your taste but you know someone else may like it, it's good to know it'll go to a good home rather than to a flipper.

Yep. I happened to mention a Loro Piana sweater and Allen Edmonds chukkas I passed on recently because they weren't in my size and two members sent me proxy requests, which I was happy to do.

Those look like the boots issued to Navy and Marine Corps aircrew. They are excellent boots. Great find.

Yeah, looks like pretty much all of Addison's business was military contracts. Date on the inside of these is 1987. I wonder where they have been sitting all this time.

Very nice boots! What material are they? They look sturdy.

Boy, your just ON IT.

Speaking of which, I also saw some Canali, Hickey and Lorenzini today. Not too crazy priced, but decided to pass anyways. 20 mins later I see an army of flippers march in and take them all. I kind of wished I picked up a couple just to smite them.

I scored a half-lined Brooks Bros 3-roll-2 tweed sack blazer yesterday evening in wonderful condition. It fits a little strangely, its been tapered....made me sad, shoulders are a tad wide but its definitely serviceable. Also there's no tag on the inside breast pocket...only on the inside of the collar. So I think that means its on the old side. I'm excited.

It was 15 bucks.
