Thinking of changing the navy 3 pc single breast I have on order from Mahon to a double breast. Would you suggest keeping it as a single breast and commissioning the DB from another tailor, or use Mahon? Anybody have personal experience with a tailor that does a DB really well? Naples, SR?

I love, love, love the A&S and A&S-inspired DB cut.

I think you're probably better off sticking with the tailor you're already using if you're happy with his product than switching to another specifically to do a DB and going through all the requisite growing pains.

Why change? he is equally adept at both. If you do chnage a whole new learning curve of proving the pattern will follow.

N00b question: Would a tailor need to remeasure for a DB?
in other words, is the measuring process the same for both SB and DB?

Thanks for all the input, the Rubinacci looks amazing, I'll see if mahon already cut the pattern for the SB, if he didn't I'll switch to a DB, we'll see what happens...the SB Navy is just so nice from Mahon:

Mine never have. They do typically require an extra fitting for the first one, however.

Slickman: there's still time to change that to SB notch, which I highly recommend doing. I have soured on SB peak, but even before that I never liked SB peak with all that belly. DB with belly however =

Well I ordered a notch navy from mina, but didn't decide on patch or flap pockets yet, I would use that mainly as my conservative suit, but before ordering that I ordered 2 SB peak from mahon, one navy one charcoal, both 3-piece. I'm going to definitely leave the charcoal peak, but was thinking I don't need both a notch and peak SB navy, and wanted to get a Navy DB as my first bespoke DB, so if Mahon didn't cut the pattern yet, I wanted to change the SB navy to DB.

Mahon says it's the same for both, but he prefers to cut SB for first time clients.

If you like Tom's work then I'd just keep using him... The SB peak lapel looks lovely. If I were you, I'd just commission a second DB suit, and keep the SB peak lapel as is...

+1. His peak lapel SBs are about as balanced in proportions as I've ever seen --- almost anonymous in the best possible sense. Of the 3 SBs I have from him, two are PL, and probably all future suit jackets will be. I dream of, but cannot justify, an SBPL dinner jacket from him, which I imagine would be as elegant as it gets.
