I have a pair of gap's cadet khaki's that are inexpensive, good quality, and slim (maybe not by SF's standards) on me

Colby Backous makes a fantastic pair of slim fit chinos with an in-seam of your choice for around 60 bucks. I received a pair last week and couldn't be happier with them.

Picked up 3 pairs of H&M slim fit chinos in navy, khaki and grey. pretty good pant- took them to the tailor and had them done hemmed and brought in a bit where it counts. for 30 dollars + 15 for tailoring I ended up with great pants.

co-signed as well. Copped 2 pairs for $20 each.

The buttons on the fly of mine fit quite snugly through their holes so I'm kinda worried I'll pop a couple off in a frenzy to take a piss.

Wait aren't these the ones that come pre-distressed... as in patches on the knees and other similar accoutrements?

They make those too, but all I've seen in stores are the normal ones, they are really great, especially for $20.

Just picked up some J Crew classic fit essential chinos. Compared to an older pair I have (maybe 2 seasons) , these pants have come really far in terms of detail and quality. Split waistband and interior finish are great for a $59 pant. Hemming and a bit of tapering (and for me out 1/2" @ the waist) and you're good to go.

I'm thinking of trying the J. Crew "urban" slim fits - are these that much slimmer than the classic fits?

From the measurements I got from J Crew, they are pretty much the same except for a slightly lower rise and smaller leg opening, 7.5", on the urbans.
