I wish my mechanics were even 1/100th of this, even if a linguistics prof could chew it up, and even if you're entirely wrong.
They seemed "off" to me, or suspicious.
He also seems to have a "meme-literacy" (for lack of a better word) far out of whack with his writing competency. One might say he's just copying them, but they seem largely to be used correctly, in the right places, while the grammar or words around them are not. That's also a bit fishy, because despite his L1 or his competency therein, that kind of metalinguistic awareness won't come with somebody who is still at the level of "you must to vote."Originally Posted by rach2jlc

There is much possibility!
Is not vague!
It's a lot simpler once the basic rules are understood. It just sounds complicated because it's hard to follow without knowing the nomenclature or the processes they refer to.
It sounds 'fishy', but most of the memes aren't structurally different from some of his mistranslations. Look at this post:
his base language is French.

You can borrow one of mine.
That's a good point... and I didn't think of that. I guess what got me was the metalinguistic function of the meme, or the misspelling (not just "poast" here but some others he used) seemed to require a higher metalinguistic awareness than his following writing would suggest. While metalinguistic awareness is often related to competency or awareness in L1, rather than specifically L2, nevertheless how could you "get" why "poast" or "moar" might be funny in English but then use German "hier?"
I can't believe that you've racked up over 4000 posts since you breached 20000.
I heard the CIA changed their IP address to kill Kennedy
That is becoming the seminal threak in SF.
Come on, you don't seriously believe people go through that trouble do you?
Why question what you read when you can read and learn? Remember: the way to Heaven is a path of ricepaper.
Sometimes they are funny. <----- what I look like while enjoying some well-done sockpuppetry.
