While there is no need to overuse it, synergy is a very useful term to describe how corporate diversification allows firms to save $ or achieve economies of scope. What other synonym would you use to explain this concept of a whole being worth more than the sum of its parts?
Cost synergies = cost savings
Revenue synergies = new revenue opportunities
"synergies" by itself is way too vague to actually mean anything - although I'm guilty of using it on a regular basis....
