Zegna?

Hi guys, never posted on this side before. Was wondering what you thought of Zegna jeans. Not for street wear, because I doubt they have any street cred, but rather for casual elegant wear.

I'm not a streetwear guy, usually wear suits or wool ff trousers and a sport coat. On weekends it's linen/wool/cotton blend trousers and sport shirts. However, my sis in law works at a fine hotel and as such can get 50 percent off in the gift shop. I saw some Zegna jeans there that looked really nice, and again, I know nothing about jeans. Not streetwear as such, but I thought they would look nice with a good ss sport shirt for casual/elegant weekend wear.

Stu, there are actually some really good jeans discussed here that don't look "street" at all.

I don't own any Zegna jeans but I have seen them and I don't particularly like the cut or the fabric - they seem more like denim trousers than dungarees. (but that's just the purist in me talking)

Ditto on both of Brian's remarks. I'd like to add that I really dislike the uniform midblue wash that a lot of Zegna jeans seem to have. Nevertheless, if you are an older, more conservative guy, they are not a terrible choice for weekend wear. I wouldn't buy them though...

Older, jeez, LAG, you're bumming me out. I'll be 40 in July, -- not THAT old -- and am more conservative. At this stage of my life, with a young family, 2 mortgages, management job, etc., it doesn't seem right for me.

What jeans would you guys recommend then, for someone like me? I wear them, like I said, as a casual elegant look with a nice sports shirt, say a Liberty of London shirt, or a conservative Lorenzini or Purple Lable shirt. I need lighter jeans because of the climate. Any recs?

Try a brand like Rag & Bone. Lightweight japanese denim. Very understated details/wash and available in a chino-style cut that is 'less-jeansy' than a classic 5 pocket jean. They look great with classic shirts and leather shoes. I've seen them on city gents and monied country folk. All ages. Look great. R&B's are rather expensive, but sounds like you can afford them.

Agreed ********** & Bone. Their "trouser cut" jean is really a trouser made out of (terrific quality) denim, and would suit you very well. Helmut Lang dark denim (raw or rinse) Bootcuts would be similarly appropriate. Both brands cost less than Zegna jeans.

I second the Helmut Lang comment. I tried on some dry denim HL (no need to go for dry denim if that's not your thing...) and the cut was understated and quite elegant, I never wear dress shoes with jeans but might have done an exception for these ones. The pricing is pretty good too if you were willing to pay Zegna prices...

BTW I didn't get them because something about the way they looked made me think they'd be a lot more elegant on a taller, more muscled fellow.

I love Helmut Lang Jeans. They have an awesome quality and an elegant cut. I usually wear them on the weekend with a jacket or a suit, because they don't fit very good to casual wear imho.

I bought a pair a few months ago and will completely agree with this statement. I didn't notice it until I joined this forum and bought a pair of PD&C GTO's.

They'd go well with light colored sneakers and a tee shirt. And don't be afraid to break them in.

i find, for example, that the hl dark rinse raw denim can look just as good with a pair of brown leather loafers and a dress shirt to a pair of black adidas sambas and a t-shirt, they're that versatile .....

Agreed. Helmut Lang jeans will go with anything, and make the whole ensemble look more elegant in the process. Best jeans I've ever owned.

Where can you get HL jeans? I think I remember seeing a few pairs at Bloomingdale's once, but that's it. Can you get them online?
