Obs the men's clothing forum will be cashmere then wool.

What about here in street wear? Do we dare break out the cotton sweaters?

I like cotton sweaters and have a number for summer, but when it comes down to it nothing beats cashmere. If I had more money, I would wear little else in the winter. I do love a lot of regular wool sweaters as well though and wear them both around town and when working outside in the fall.

I choose extra fine merino wool. The sweaters I have that are made from it are extremely soft and very warm. I find that merino wool sweaters can be heavy, but they retain their shape well. It's wool without the itch!

My favorite sweater is actually cotton but it's not like any cotton you will ever feel in your life. Wool is my equal favorite but soft silky wool that again you have never felt before and a couple of cashmere sweaters I have are unreal, again you haven't felt cashmere like this so I like all three pretty much the same, almost.

I really like the 70/30 cashmere/silk & wool/silk blends that Prada use in some of their mainline sweaters. Incredibly soft and lightweight, yet they don't feel too delicate to be worn regularly.

For more heavyweight sweaters for cold weather I have a weak spot for mohair since it's one of the few fabrics that still ooze pure luxury, although pure cashmere is definitely more wearable. Cashmere is everywhere these days though, and good quality can be had pretty cheap too, but to me not much can beat high end 100% cashmere sweaters by Malo etc.

While cashmere has the best feel, I find it a bit too heavy most of the time (even lightweight cashmere can be overly warm) and a complete pain to store, as moths go absolutely apeshit over it.

Like others have said, merino has a nice feel but is generally lighter, and also stands up better to dry cleaning. Cotton isn't bad, though in my experience they tend to fade more with use. The only one I really avoid is straight wool.

I like those thick wool-y sweaters.
