Quick question, I'm about to leave to do some shopping...where can I try on 1000 mile boots? I hate buying multiple sizes online and returning the ones that don't fit (seems like such a waste), so I'd like to try on some in-store.

I live in Louisiana if that helps, but I'm thinking bigger stores.

I believe we are S.O.L here in LA, although if you find out I am wrong please advise me asap lol

The only thing I can think of is to find your size in AE as AE makes most if not all 1000k boots for Wolverine. I would ask other members what there sizes are in other shoes as well i.e. i wear an 8 d in aldens barrie last which many report to size the same as 1000k boots.

Hmm...I wear an 8.5 in Clark's desert boots and my work boot is an 8.5 E Chippewa. 8.5 is small in every other type of shoe, though.

Sorry to ask a question that has probably been asked repeatedly, but I haven't been able to find the answer...

if I have a Vibram sole added to my new 1000 Miles, is it better to do it when the boots are new? or is it better to wear them for a while and have it added later?

AE only makes (or made) some of the specialty models like the Krause, 744LTD, etc. The regular ones are not made by them.

You can read back over the last week or so and find recommendations concerning your question. As is usually the case, opinions vary.

From what I gather from people (strictly anecdotel) The AE 1000ks run .5 size down from standard US sizing i.e. i wear an 8.5d and would wear a 8d in 1000k.

If I remember correctly AE has made the models with the 360-degree welt and the ones with 270-degree welt are made by Wolverine.

I have them added before I wear them outside. I just purchased a pair if Krause, which I love, and had a half sole added. That said, I think the most important factor is a good cobbler. Just like a good barber, a good cobbler is worth spending some time to find one.

Correct. 721LTD is another example of an AE-made Wolverine.

The sale is still going on in the stores and they have an additional 25% off bringing the price down to $132.75. Its sold out online, but there is still limited inventory available, and you have to call around different stores to see if they have your size available. Shipping is $9. I just purchased one about 10 mins ago.

Good luck.

I must say, I rather regret applying Obenauf's LP to my Rust 1Ks. It darkened them and pretty much turned them brown.

I think, for a city dweller, Lexol cleaner followed by Lexol conditioner once a month or so is very likely enough.

Lesson learned.

After a month and a half, the stitching on 1 of my boots was coming undone. Took it to nordstroms and got an exchange. Hopefully it doesnt happen again.

My black 1000 Mile boots are about a month old. I saw what appeased to be a bit of cracking/color lightening around the creases near the toe. I rubbed a bit of Red Wing Boot Oil over the crashing/cracking area and it seems better. I did get a touch of the oil on the stitching and it appears to have darkened it a tad. Any way to written that stitching up again? If not... it isn't the end of the world... just wondering.

Thx.

My 1Ks went to Peru over the holidays. It's the rainy season, so they saw thunderstorms in the Amazon and plenty of rain at Machu Picchu too. Obenauf's LP kept my feet nice and dry, and the commando sole was great in the mud.
