Wolverine 1000 Mile Boot Review

So I just got home and tried on my McCleans that I ordered. Definitely some QC issues. For starters the toe caps on my pair are not the same size. The left boot's toe cap is noticeably larger which makes that boot look bigger even though they're the same size. They also fit strangely. My left foot was very comfortable in the 7 but my right foot felt tight. That makes no sense because I know for a fact that my left foot is bigger than my right foot. The seaming on the bottom of the boot isn't very clean either.

I'm wondering whether or not I should exchange it or just look for a different pair of boots. I definitely love the left boot but the right one has many problems. I guess you would call me a worrywart but this isn't a very good impression from Wolverine.

Since Nordstrom has free returns, I would just try to exchange them. You could even consider buying a second pair and only returning the worst left and right combination, assuming you can afford to temporarily spend twice as much. This would also likely get you a working pair sooner rather than later, and possibly prevent your size from selling out before you can exchange.

That said, I'd love to hear others' comments on Wolverine quality, as I have McCleans on the way as well.

Just kopped the Wolvy McClean Boots at the Nordy's sale. Great price on these and they look great. Here are some pics:

Krause boots today in black Horween Dublin Leather:

I'm on about the third or forth wear of this pair. Not sure how much I like the Dublin leather. The wrinkles at the bends aren't the most attractive IMO. Still, I love the look and style of this boot. The contrast stiching and the brown laces are set them apart from other black leather boots.

The McClean boot looks similar to the Krause except for the leather being different and also the Krause does not have speedhooks. I like the look of the McClean too and saw them in the Nordstrom sale, but I opted for Iron Rangers in Amber Harness instead.

It's amazing how much the black leather Krause boots look like my allen edmonds black eagle county's, just with flat laces and much nicer soles. I'm planning on resoling my pair with a leather sole + topy but the leather creases on your pair are identical to mine

I think that the Krause's are actually made by AE. AE uses the Horween Dublin Leather in a few of their other shoes. Not surprising there are similarities. The creasing seems to definitely something characteristic of Dublin Leather.

Those of you that haven't taken your ball and gone home by blocking me know that I've complained about my 1Ks because of the absolutely crappy chromexcel used on them.

I have had a bad attitude about chromexcel due to these boots, but I learned something in another thread on this forum which leads me to believe that the chromexcel used on my right boot must have come from the shoulder or belly of an older cow. I shouldn't use it as an example to judge all chromexcel by.

However, it speaks poorly of the venerated Horween tannery that they even produced this particular piece of junk leather. It probably should have been shrunken up and sold as "bullhide."

I'm considering those Malvin and Joyce boots and giving chromexcel a second chance...

I haven't read this thread in awhile but my 1ks are extremely wrinkled and messed compared to my red wings leatherwise. CXL is not the most tough leather out there so I shouldn't be surprised. I also think I sized up too much..but TBH I am not very impressed by these boots after wearing them for a few years. They need a double leather sole at least....

I also think its very funny that people actually hike in these boots. Terrible sole for anything except dry pavement. LMAO

can you post a picture? I'm curious to see if they resemble mine.

Here are mine, worn 4-6 times a week since October.
Treated one time with neatsfoot oil (that was a huge mistake)
