mostly I don't share ed's concern for lemming-like group-think because I think so many of you would look better if you wore what we told you to wear. However, when people contemplate not wearing perfectly fine combos just because I, personally, don't, then I start to wonder if it's all gone too far.

i think that the best way to avoid that, is to take ones time and try process why it is they are doing what they are doing. acting without thinking is rarely good form and rarely leads to any success imo.

I pretty much never wear print ties with odd jackets. For me, those always take knits, repps, or (seasonally) wool or linen.

I get a little confused with the term "repp." Are you referring to a tie whose fabric is ribbed, or are you including the diagonal stripes in the definition?

mostly the stripes. If I am going to wear a solid tie with a jacket, 90% of the time it will be knit and the other times it will be wool or linen.

since Grenadines are woven, are they considered in good taste when paired with jackets? Sorry, I get confuse with knits vs. woven....Thanks

Then there are those who say you shouldn't wear wool ties in spring and summer. Cotton and linen ties in patterns above are tough to come by, at least in the places I've looked.

I've seen very few linen prints that I like (I own only one that I can think of). Mostly I like solid linen or else wovens in which the pattern is part of the base weave, i.e., not jacqards with raised patterns. Again, I have one of the latter that is nice but only one.

Cotton prints are more common but mostly suck.

Also be on the lookout for blends, silk+linen or +cotton also gives a summery sheen.

Irish poplin is another very nice summer tie. As is raw silk (shantung).
