"In the past, it was wealth, privilege and social position (class) that represented a certain "status". The "stuff" was simply the trappings of this status...not the status itself. And people knew this. People may have admired and dreamed of being a part of this status, but the idea of "pretending" to be would never enter their mind, as you would be ridiculed by both your class, and the class you were pretending to be. People were generally content with their lot in life, and didn't place so much importance on being "different". Those that did aspire, did so successfully via education, accomplishments, social climbing, etc."

I don't know who wrote the above quote, but I got it HERE. If you wrote this, please let me know and I'll cite it. Thanks!

“Just remember, the same as a spectacular Vogue magazine, remember that no matter how close you follow the jumps: Continued on page whatever. No matter how careful you are, there's going to be the sense you missed something, the collapsed feeling under your skin that you didn't experience it all. There's that fallen heart feeling that you rushed right through the moments where you should've been paying attention. Well, get used to that feeling. That's how your whole life will feel some day. This is all practice. None of this matters. We're just warming up.”

"Intelligence is the ability to make distinctions." - no idea I like to think I'm good at that, so this quote means I'm smyart. :p "To be perfectly happy is to be without dreams." - a paraphrase of something I read in a book about getting into law school. Great justification for someone like me who's never perfectly happy.
