I finally got round to watching Upload, on Prime. It's diverting but not much more. It's basically Black Mirror as a romantic comedy, but relying a little too much on some very old tropes (crazy (ex-)girlfriend, bromance than is totally, like not, in any way, homoerotic, oh no).

It's lightweight and fun, especially the first season. It gets a bit less so in the second and especially the third. That said, I'd watch it just for Andy Allo.

I just binge-watched the third series of Lupin with my son. We were both gripped, and agreed it was excellent: better than the second series, with a set piece opening that was up there with the first series. It's really a perfect combination of the spirit of the original stories with contemporary French society and Omar Sy is just brilliant as is the supporting cast.

Good to hear, walked away from the second series with little desire to continue.

Blue Eye Samurai has pulled me in.
Me too.

Also watching Agents of SHIELD. We watched most of the first season when it aired but that's it. I'm enjoying it, and just wish they'd done more to weave it in with the larger Avengers storyline.

if you like S1, you're in for a treat, S1 is the weakest season by far

Finished up the last episode of Selfie, which we had been watching as a poor weather weekend breakfast TV show
MV5BMjI5OTI0MzY5OF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwODk4NTk0MjE@._V1_.jpg

Modern day reincarnation of Pygmalion with Karen Gillen playing Eliza and John Cho as Henry.

Definitely a show that was a victim of poor marketing and a bad title. Pilot is overly vapid, but the characters come into their own and the show finds its footing as a charming workplace romcom. Gillen and Cho have fantastic chemistry and the writing is pretty sharp.

I'm not going to say it would have risen to the level of the network comedy greats, but if they had marketed it right, I could have seen it have a well-regarded 3-4 season run. Best episodes all fall AFTER the official cancellation (and I think were dumped on Hulu rather than airing in prime time) so it never had a chance to shine.
Although maybe it also looks better ~10 years later--the social media bits may have been too on the nose at the time, but after seeing what Instagram influencer culture grew to be, the show almost seems like quaint nostalgia.

Plus Karen Gillen :inlove:

Just finished The Expanse. I agree S03 was the best. S05 recovered nicely from 3, but 6 was only okay.
I'm now in season 3 of my re-watch.
I remember not liking the kids storyline, and the lesbian woman reverend character.
Bobbi's slow meld/integration with the Rosci crew and Arrivadercisala is aces though.

Roadkill. From 2020.

On Amazon or Netflix, can't recall.

British political intrigue starring Hugh Laurie. 4 full-hour episodes, was put on over here by Masterpiece.

Reminiscent of House of Cards, in particular the original English series. Actually, case could be made that a good bit is a rip off. Still, good and Hugh. Wish he'd kept his shirt on in the bedroom scenes, though.
