What to wear with my new denim jacket

Hi. I've just found this forum which is good as I need some advice from those more in the know than me. I found a nice brown denim jacket that I bought before considering what to wear with it. I know denim on denim is a bit of a no-go so I'm not sure what trousers I could wear with the jacket

. I thought cargos wouldn't really do it as the jacket is really smart-looking. What would you suggest?

I don't wear brown so I'm not going to be of much help but why would you think wearing a denim jacket with jeans is a "no-go"? I can't think of anything else that a denim jacket would be paired with. If you're afraid of the "canadian tuxedo", don't buy a denim jacket.

I'm sure most are going to suggest posting photos of the jacket (and never wearing cargos, ever).

I think khaki chinos would look good, maybe a lighter or gray shade for good contrast. "British khaki" might be too dark depending on the jacket color. Shoes have to work too.

The denim on denim problem arises when you overload on too much blue denim. Your jacket is brown. There's nothing wrong with denim on denim as a fabric combination (although I'm not sure if brown denim would look good with blue anyway).

I don't really get the aversion to denim on denim. To me it seems like the most authentic and natural combination. Sure, it may be difficult to pull off but other than say cotton duck I can't think of too many other fabrics I'd pair it with. The whole denim jackets with chinos thing seems incongruous to me. One is a medium to heavy weight work fabric and the other somewhere in the area of lightweight casual dress. I suppose they can work together but they'd never be my first choice as a pairing.

It is very simple, if you buy a denim jacket, wear chinos with it.

If its a brown jacket, why not just pair it with blue jeans. The whole deal with the tux is the color imo.
Chinos is a good choice for blue denim jackets though, but should be approched more as military wear than dress wear to go with the ruggedness of denim.

Some good suggestions. I really love the jacket but i'm finding it difficult to find things that go with it. I've tried it with blue denim jeans and it doesn't really go. So some say chinos - i guess that could work. I think i'll have a wonder around the shops in my jacket to see what I can pair it up with.

I have attached a picture of the jacket. If anyone has any more suggestions I'd like to hear them.

Oh, it really is brown.

Why not just wear it with jeans then? As long as it's not the same color, you're fine.
