Zeiss Aviators. I get my digicam in the mail later today. Will post pics then. Let's turn this into an eyewear Appreciation thread like Roy's shirt Appreciation thread.

oakley big square wires or some ray-bans (not sure the model name, but they're tortoise-shell, rectangular frames)

yep, that's it.

I have 3 pairs of Oakleys and one pair of Maui Jim. Ever since I got the Maui Jim, I rarely wear the Oakleys except when I'm golfing.

For you Oakley wearers, I hope you don't wear them with formalwear. Plastic frames should never be worn with a suit or tie.

BS, Persol sunglasses go fine with a suit and tie.

I think there are many 'plastic' frames that are more than acceptable. Mind you, it has to do with make and style, but... that is for the wearer to decide.

(1) a substantial part of the oakley line-up in metal-framed (in fact, I'd say the majority of the fashion rather than sport line is metal)

(2) "with formalwearl?" I'm not sure how many people are wearing tuxes/tails around on a regular basis, much less in situations that would also call for sunglasses.

On the off chance that you meant business-wear, I can appreciate that certain sport frames look awful with suits, but by no means can that be generalized to all plastic. Don't forget tortoishell is plastic (barring inane expense and possible violation of endangered species acts), which looks quite good with many suits. Plain old black-framed sunglasses fall in this category as well.

Not to be offensive, but I am surprised to see that on a styleforum there are so many people wearing oaklees for anything other than some kind of vigorous physical activity.

Nice clothes of any kind (street wear, formal wear, business attire etc...) don't look good with Oakley's in my opinion. When I see Oakleys I think of American Eagle, cargo pants and an aged yankees hat. The worst is when they put the sunglasses on top of their head. To this day I find that to be the look of the quintessential imbecile. At least around here.

Oakleys look way too "I wish I was on the moon" to me. That's only my opinion.

There must be 50 different styles of Oakley. Are you referring to all of them in your "blanket" statement?

PHV, I totally agree with you. Plasticky Oakleys with a suit always makes me think the guy is trying to represent his "brah"-ness. Or only owns one pair of sunglasses, which are usually ugly in any situation IMO.

Mine (Beat to crap Ray-Bans - I also own a pair of Persols, the thinner classic rectangular ones, but they have stretched out and want to fall off my face):

I used to own Oakleys. When I was 12. I have seen probably every style of Oakleys and really have seen nothing that Maui Jim does better. If you're into flash, style, get some Oliver Peoples or Pradas.
