Betty Lavette - Scene of the Crime. Never gets old.

For those of you who don't know, Bettye is a soul singer who has been in the game since the late 60s I believe. She made a pretty good album called Child of the Seventies that never got a proper release until the last decade. She somehow managed to stay at it until some of the public caught up. This one was made a few years ago with the Drive By Truckers as back up. It's got a really heavy, bluesy late night sound it. The instruments are perfect (classic sounding but without sounding like pastiche) Her voice is one of those that's actually gotten better with age, and the way she sings will grab you by the balls. Live, she's even better. I have never wanted to bang an old lady as much as I did watching her do her thing on stage.

Heard the single on satellite radio a few weeks back and thought it was pretty good. I really liked their first two full length albums and cannot wait to check out the newest one.
